Nor the early TD5s with porous heads nor the plastic dowels that allowed the head to walk.

well as publicity increases and greater numbers of failures are known of it will certainly put people off and it will devalue the second hand market too.

Whatever we think, the bean counters will have already done the sums, they are obviously stacked in the favour of non-recall. If this were the USA, talk of a class action suit would no doubt be looming...

Nope porsche did it with the 996 engines, left future owners in the lurch, created a whole industry of rebuilds and aftermarket solutions and hit values.

Nightmare. Good thing it's still under warranty..... Some vehicles are just too scary to own once the warranty period has lapsed 2015 SDV8 Autobiography - Black, Cirrus, 22" Style 707 Wheels

As an update the service manager phoned me today they had been instructed to order a new engine..... Although approval for the warranty work had not yet been signed off by JLR Rolling Eyes

There had been some issues with the service history as it was saying on the JLR system that it was overdue its first service and did I have a record of it. That's interesting I said as JLR neglect to provide a service record book anymore as its all recorded electronically on THIER SYSTEM. I knew I had an invoice as a record but I did not feel I should be the one who had to prove what their system should say. I confirmed who had done the service (Liverpool) and it turns out the had 'forgotten to update the JLR system" Rolling Eyes good job I was not trying to sell the car with a full service history Censored

I asked how material this would have been to the claim (it's done 22k I think and is c14 months old). I was told it was crucial and they would not have entertained the warranty claim if it had not been serviced on time / mileage. I'm usually pretty slack on service with company cars as its just an inconvenience and have never had problems with BMW / Mercedes so long as it's within reason. Looks like JLR take a tougher line so I would keep an eye on your service intervals Thumbs Up

Not expecting to get another update until the end of next week to confirm a collection date which I expect end next week ' early week after. If it's not ready by then I start kicking off Rolling with laughter

Hmm - that's an interesting one - I bought mine used - but it had it's 16k service done 960 miles late (previous owner) - but was sold to me with a full LR 2 year warranty and sold as FSH......

Luckily its an SDV8

However, I'f you had done 22k - that would be quite a long way overdue, so probably fair enough to reject a claim on that basis.

The big question here is what is "within reason " of going overdue my jag did 650 miles last year so I didn't bother to get it serviced so does that mean it's overdue in time? I bet it is (it's years out of warranty anyway)

I've read my small print in my warranty booklet and I can't find a definitive answer to what's deemed reasonable overdue in time or mileage??

What time and mileage did you get it serviced?

This is reminiscent of the 4.0 V8 engine failures due to nicasil coated bores in pre 2001 XJs. Jaguar changed to steel liners in this engine, but it must have cost them millions in warranty claims. Once again one wonders hos this was not discovered during testing. 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

Just a thought. When cars are endurance tested, they get a lot of miles very quickly. All components are checked for wear only. In real use, there's a combination of wear and AGE. Age. Weathering. Time. I'd definitely choose a 100,000 mile one-year old car over a 100,000 mile five-year old car. I sometimes wonder if that's the reason when things slip through quality checks that should have caught them.
