Nor the early TD5s with porous heads nor the plastic dowels that allowed the head to walk. |

well as publicity increases and greater numbers of failures are known of it will certainly put people off and it will devalue the second hand market too.

Nope porsche did it with the 996 engines, left future owners in the lurch, created a whole industry of rebuilds and aftermarket solutions and hit values. |

Nightmare. Good thing it's still under warranty..... Some vehicles are just too scary to own once the warranty period has lapsed 2015 SDV8 Autobiography - Black, Cirrus, 22" Style 707 Wheels |

The big question here is what is "within reason " of going overdue my jag did 650 miles last year so I didn't bother to get it serviced so does that mean it's overdue in time? I bet it is (it's years out of warranty anyway)

This is reminiscent of the 4.0 V8 engine failures due to nicasil coated bores in pre 2001 XJs. Jaguar changed to steel liners in this engine, but it must have cost them millions in warranty claims. Once again one wonders hos this was not discovered during testing. 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

Just a thought. When cars are endurance tested, they get a lot of miles very quickly. All components are checked for wear only. In real use, there's a combination of wear and AGE. Age. Weathering. Time. I'd definitely choose a 100,000 mile one-year old car over a 100,000 mile five-year old car. I sometimes wonder if that's the reason when things slip through quality checks that should have caught them. |
