Warning to owners in Scotland from TIS

Tim In Scotland is at sea, but wanted me to warn owners north of the boarder of some criminal activity going on. Evil or Very Mad

James Thumbs Up

Please see the message from Tim below:

Got an email from home last night: some scrotes broke into my house on Saturday night. My father found the back porch and glass kitchen to porch door's glass smashed on Sunday after attending the village Rememberence Parade........ fortunately there was not one bit of other damage, so far nothing found to be missing and the RR was still on the drive, however the police and insurance appeared within 20 minutes as there had been other attempted thefts of expensive cars in the village the same night that they were investigating. Two other newish RR's and a brand new RRS were targeted but the owners had not left the keys lying around and their dogs had scared off the thieves. Police suspect they were looking for the RR's keys, just as well I don't leave them in the house while I am away! Verdict of police is they won't be back as they rarely strike twice in the same area (I don't really belive that, if they want the car they will try again I'm sure).

I would be obliged if you could post a warning to the Central Scotland FFRR and RRS owners that there is a gang operating stealing FFRR's , RRS and other expensive and fairly hard to get cars to order in rural areas of Central and Strathclyde Regions.

It's the first time in 28 years at the house that I have ever had a security scare/ problem.

Best Regards,

Tim

Happens all the time where i am , just a couple of streets away a couple of Beemers , Audi's have gone TA TA during the night ,,,,,,,,,,,,

And it's not just up here it's everywhere really , just your Donald Duck if you are the unlucky one .........

That's why the other half and Daughters call me "The Janny" (Janitor) as i am always going on about not leaving their keys and other stuff lying about and checking all the doors are locked at night ......

But if they want in they will get in ......... No matter what security you have in place ..........

If I am away I always take the keys.
If I am at home I keep them easy to find. Rather they take the car than something infinately more precious to me.

Two years our neighbour was burgled during the night for the keys to his new Mercedes S-Class and they got away only to be caught later with the rest of the "Essex" gang that was operating in Hertfordshire.

I am never sure whether its best to leave the keys downstairs for them or risk have them searching upstairs with the kids etc.....

EDIT - I have experience on this matter - Make sure they can find the keys wihtout having to come and ask you!

No matter what you think, when you are awoken by a couple of heavies wearing ski masks and brandishing baseball bats. You are going to be in no state to be fighting them off, and you certainly won;t have a chance to grab your big stick that's by the bed. I'd much rather know about it once the car has long gone!

After missus stupidly leaving the car unlocked overnight and some scumbag having a rifle round (nothing taken and no damage thankfully) I have additional security added

I'll also be setting up the CCTV as it's so easy to get a system running with WiFi and a PC to give full coverage cheaply and be viewable wherever you are (including recordings).

As others have said, best to leave keys out of site of doors and windows but somewhere downstairs, even if you DID get the big stick in time you'll only end up being put away yourself.

I'd much rather be woken up by the start of the engine as it drives down the road and I'm on the phone to tracker (plus my other special device installed) than I would be woken with a light tap on the head from a scumbag wanting directions to car and other valuables.

It's also worth a reminder to people to not be too precise on your location when on this forum - we're not alone...

most burglars are just that ,burglars...they steal and are most probably not the violent type...i am very protective of what i have worked hard for and i will do my utmost to prevent anyone taking my possessions from me so if the said burglar decides to have a go then i certainly wont make it easy for him...this might sound like bravado on my part but being a neighbourhood watch coordinator i have apprehended three burglars a few houses away from me with the help of 2 armed response units, a dog unit and the police helicopter, [overkill on the police bit]..

am i the only one that wants there stuff to remain theres.... ... - .- -.

No, but given the choice of a car or potential harm to my son/wife it's always going to be material possessions at the bottom of the list.

And the end of the day, it's just a box on wheels and I'd have only had it a few years anyway.

Burglars and Specialist Car Thieves are quite seperate groups though. The Specialist gangs that go after high value and performance cars generally aren't interested in nicking your TV !

I'm not planning on going into much more detail but, from first hand experience a few years ago, at a different house - If they've decided they're taking it - let them have it. If you must keep your keys upstairs, and they come and wake you up - just give them the keys! I'd rather just leave them downstairs, out of the way of windows and postboxes, but easy enough to find without having to ask me!

I had a car stolen from me about 6-7 years ago now. A week later, driving down the road I saw it parked up... decided to park out nearby and wait. Saw the guy go to get in and was halfway out the car when I decided to call the Police and follow him instead.

I lost him but the Police got him - they found a machete a hatchet and a hammer in a plastic bag on the passenger seat - I later found out he was on his way to do something rather nasty and was "known" for serious crime - the car has been stolen as a cover for the crime he was about to commit.

2 years ago, at a different address, my car was stolen by someone acting as part of an organised crime ring. My wife and family turned up to the house less than 15 minutes after it happened - that day she was running a bit late. Being that close to turning up to the crime being in progress affect the wife and eldest daughter for some time afterwards, it still affects my wife today.

If on my own in the house, the choice to involve myself in the gamble of whether my thief happens to be a softie or not is fine. When my family are also included in the gamble that's a different set of risks completely and not one I am prepared to include them in.

If, however, I wake up to hearing something going on downstairs then I'd struggle to not pop down to say Hi.
