Tim In Scotland is at sea, but wanted me to warn owners north of the boarder of some criminal activity going on.

A poor society we live in when we can't leave our own property without some scroat tampering with it. SWMBO cracks up with me when I lock everything away saying I am over protective |

Two years our neighbour was burgled during the night for the keys to his new Mercedes S-Class and they got away only to be caught later with the rest of the "Essex" gang that was operating in Hertfordshire.

EDIT - I have experience on this matter - Make sure they can find the keys wihtout having to come and ask you! No matter what you think, when you are awoken by a couple of heavies wearing ski masks and brandishing baseball bats. You are going to be in no state to be fighting them off, and you certainly won;t have a chance to grab your big stick that's by the bed. I'd much rather know about it once the car has long gone! |

After missus stupidly leaving the car unlocked overnight and some scumbag having a rifle round (nothing taken and no damage thankfully) I have additional security added

most burglars are just that ,burglars...they steal and are most probably not the violent type...i am very protective of what i have worked hard for and i will do my utmost to prevent anyone taking my possessions from me so if the said burglar decides to have a go then i certainly wont make it easy for him...this might sound like bravado on my part but being a neighbourhood watch coordinator i have apprehended three burglars a few houses away from me with the help of 2 armed response units, a dog unit and the police helicopter, [overkill on the police bit]..

No, but given the choice of a car or potential harm to my son/wife it's always going to be material possessions at the bottom of the list. And the end of the day, it's just a box on wheels and I'd have only had it a few years anyway. |

Burglars and Specialist Car Thieves are quite seperate groups though. The Specialist gangs that go after high value and performance cars generally aren't interested in nicking your TV ! I'm not planning on going into much more detail but, from first hand experience a few years ago, at a different house - If they've decided they're taking it - let them have it. If you must keep your keys upstairs, and they come and wake you up - just give them the keys! I'd rather just leave them downstairs, out of the way of windows and postboxes, but easy enough to find without having to ask me! |

I had a car stolen from me about 6-7 years ago now. A week later, driving down the road I saw it parked up... decided to park out nearby and wait. Saw the guy go to get in and was halfway out the car when I decided to call the Police and follow him instead.
