Had to pop down to the local tyre place today, after SWMBO hit a pothole last night in the Skoda. Unfortunately it was a new tyre which was on and had done less than 500miles
happened to have a spare tyre in the garage which was practically new in any case so £7 later all is well.
However when I was there some chaps turned up in a merc with a tyre which the sidewall had failed. was quite a new tyre and they were a bit peed off. However the chap at the tyre garage is very knowledgeable and doesnt suffer fools lightly, had a look at it......
the wheel was scrap, it had been previously repaired with liquid metal and not welded and had a large flat spot, also when the tyre was removed there had been a temporary roadside repair done by the AA which hadn't then been made good at a garage. The inside of the casing showed it had been run flat for a good distance and this had caused the sidewall to split.
The chaps were saying they wanted a new tyre...... Our chappie said he would by all means send it off for warranty replacement, but there was little point as it was obvious what had happened. The customer was adamant it was a spontaneous failure.
talk about trying it on, there was a few of them and i think they thought they could bully a new tyre out of the chap. Not a chance can't stand folks who try it on when they have obviously cut corners and not followed advice/had repairs carried out properly. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
