Help 'puter network problem / question / can it be done?

Hi ya chaps, this will hopefully be an easy one to answer for all you techy chaps that did pay attention in class.... I was too busy planning upgrades to the Mini engine Wink

I have a good friend who has found him self on the wrong side of the misses Sad , and who is now staying at a pals yard in his caravan.... he went and got one of those all singing and dancing TV boxes that needs an internet connection to work, but he's had to relocate his tint tent further away from the wifi source and it doesn't work Big Cry Big Cry neither does his ipad, and he's been reduced to smurfing on a prepaid phone Shocked

We have just ordered a super long RJ45 lead to get the signal back in the tint tent, but we were wondering if this could be turned back in to a wifi signal, as this would enable him to run everything without the need for plug swapping..... I got lost at HELLO Embarassed Embarassed can anyone help? Please bare in mind that I've just got to my half century and none of this existed when I was being force fed with Log tables..... no big words and lots of pictures please Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Just stick a WiFi router on the end of your network cable & away you go.

I'd say something like this mate:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-WR940N...ess+router

Will be pretty much plug and play, and should come with disc you can use in a computer to set any settings you require (Password, etc)

Slightly different model but to exactly the same effect!

Network cable from house goes in the blue hole in the back. Anything he wants connected go in the yellow and it obviously has wireless too.

Im pretty confident the wired ones will be plug and play, cant be certain for the wireless though. As i said, any problem shoot me a PM, I'll run you through it!

I'd get the TP-Link one. Always used their stuff in the home environment and can vouch for it. No experience with the second one!

The TP-Link also gives you LAN ports!

A possible simple solution: Check the wifi router in the house. It's possible to log onto the router. The output power can be changed. Check to make sure that it's at maximum. Also, if the property owner agrees, it may work to relocate the router to a location near a nice big window overlooking the tin tent. (As long as it still works throughout the house, they shouldn't really care where it is.) Usually, one router should be fine in a regular house. A large yard and a good, solid, old stone house will cause signal problems. NOTE: to log into a router, you MUST use a wired connection. (Wifi won't be good enough because you are changing wifi settings.)

Unfortunately the router is in a portable office / jack leg, which is made of tin and the tin tent is now 100 feet away and that is also made of shielding material.... so I reckon that we're on a hiding to nothing there Sad .... But I have a 40 meter (120 foot) lead and a DSL wireless router on its way... and this has the added advantage that the TV box can be hard wired to the router, while the smart phone / ipad can be done via the wifi Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Sounds like a reasonable solution if you can keep the cable out of the way & safe - it might be worth buying a spare Whistle

Probably easier & cheaper than trying to move the existing router to a window, external antenna or any of the other options.

I think you should set the router up as a wireless access point, but will probably work OK as a router - I guess just plug it in & see if it works - you can't really break anything Thumbs Up

Alternatively, if his electricity supply is on the same wiring as the house you could use those powerline adapters that transfer ethernet over domestic power circuits.

I have a set and they work great and we're dead easy to setup.
