Hi thanks for the replies, if it's the Torque Converter what is the implication of not changing it till it fails completely - will that mean it damages the gearbox or will it just mean the torque converter needs replacement? Does anyone know how much I should be paying for the part and labour for replacing it? 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 v8 LPG, Java Black, 22' Hawke Alloys, Black Beast |

That noise is caused by the lockup clutch failing when it's trying to engage to lock the input shaft to the TC and breaking up. I had the same thing a couple of years ago, should be around £700 for a new TC and fitting. I decided to have the gearbox refurbished at the same time as they had to take it out anyway to fit the TC so was round £1200-1300 from what I can remember. Took about 4 or 5 days to get it done.

If the TC is starting to fail it will be burning/breaking up the lockup clutch lining.

Does anyone know any decent transmission specialists in the warwickshire/midlands area that they can recommend to do the work or is this something any competent mechanic can do without any special tools or software? 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 v8 LPG, Java Black, 22' Hawke Alloys, Black Beast |
