EGR cleaner 10k boost etc etc

Just flirting around "that" auction site for some ideas on car polish and cleaning kit...I use Megs and poor boys usually but thought a mooch wouldn't hurt...came across a name I've not seen for years....10K boost. i used this on my TD5 and you used to warm the car up and spray it directly in the turbo to clean things out....

reading a few EGR issues on here should I be thinking of getting a couple of tins and self cleaning?

Also considered a 'Terraclean' as heard some very good reports....what do you think ? Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

All a waste of money IMHO... EGR valves put dirty exhaust back through the system, Terraclean is injected through the injectors, well downstream of all the muck put in by the EGR so it won't do a thing...

Someone on here only a week or two back had a Terraclean and said it made no difference whatsoever, modern fuel has detergents in it, strip a newish engine down and the insides are fine, it's all the rubbish they try to burn off again that causes problems....

If you have seen the black mess you would see that 10k boost or any other "cleaning" product will do next to nothing...

Save your money... best thing for any engine is to use it to it's designed parameters now and again... give it the beans to clear it out and keep it running in top condition... pootling around like Driving Miss Daisy is the worst possible thing for a modern engine... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

I have done the odd Italian tune up now and then but with the car at 75k and turbo failure on the TDV8's becoming more talked about I was exploring options!

Maybe I'll just bang it on the M6 at 50mph in 3rd for a couple of junctions Thumbs Up Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Best thing to do is reap out the EGR's altogether, nothing good every came of putting dirty low oxygen air back into your combustion chamber.

The EGR's on the TDV8 really do not get caked up like you see on other cars. There a mild coating of soot and that is it. Regards

Still, i don't see the point of the EGR other than the emission regulations, it has no benefit to the engine, its performance or life span.

Exactly, it does reduce emissions which is good for us humans and our need to breathe cleanish air. Sure the EGR is an imperfect science but dictated as necessary by law based on scientific testing to try and reduce the pollution from internal combustion engines. And those on the TDV8 are much less prone to failure than the TDV6 in D3 and RRS. A timely clean with some carb cleaner keeps them working at their best.

As for removing them, all that says is the owner is a selfish individual with no regard for either the law or other people. Same deal with Decat pipes and removal of DPFs etc. All those items are there to help improve general air quality and are part and parcel of running a car. Rolling Eyes

Its a little small minded to call those that remove these devices selfish. Its a case of whats best for the car to make it run its best and perform better and last longer. There are far more polluting things to worry about.

^^ Run better.........and dirtier. Yes, definitely selfish on account of putting oneself before the general good. Left to people like you we'd all be running on carbs and 4 star whilst belching out more pollution than Chernobyl No.2 reactor. What a fantastic legacy for the next generation.

Have to laugh when people think we can control the air quality above this tiny island. Have they any idea how much pollution floats across to us from other Countries, countries far bigger than us that don't worry about what they send in to the atmosphere..... and if you think I'm talking billy ollocks, then look at your car next time it's covered in Saharan sand and ask yourself how it travelled all that way . What we do to try and clean the air in this country is like spitting in the atlantic ocean.

Actually i don't care about number plates just interested in people view. Also EGR is not a legal requirement if you can pass an MOT with it blanked then no law broken.

And as i don't have an EGR as I don't like diesel cars i'm not breaking any laws.

If your that concerned about the air pollution why are you not driving an eco car?????? No RR cane considered good for the environment, and very few of us have an actual need to drive one.

Im not sure i follow that logic sir... I live on the edge of the cotswolds in the countryside. The air quality here is good, the same UK air in say central London is NOT due to all the pollutants put out in London... If your logic was correct, the global weather would mix the pollutants together like a big tumble drier and we would all get an equal share...

Look at the smog across Asia! that does NOT waft around the globe like a giant cloud effecting everyone!

EGR’s, DPF’s, Cats etc etc are there for a reason! We should all be a little less thoughtless about others health! Whistle

Taken to it's logical conclusion, none of us should be driving FFRR's then Whistle
