I think it's called people believing what they are told by big companies I mean car companies don't rig it to pass a test surely (VW).

If you look at it from an engineering point of view you would never have an egr valve. That's a simple fact it does nothing for the performance of the engine are they on F1 cars or rally cars of course not. Maybe we should ban motor sport and take up running instead.

Other emission controls are less harmful to the engine performance cats for example no real issue with those even DPF's to a point as long as the regen systems work ok don't impact the engine.

What would be better than egr valves is hugs like kenetic record systems for braking especially on turbo lumps. This would save far more fuel and there for less politician then a stupid egr valve.

If you really care about the emissions from your cars there are lots of more effiecent 4x4 to tow a trailer.

Just because it was VW who were outed I am not so sure other companies are in a position to shine and step up, in fact I imagine many of their legal teams are currently working out the disaster recovery scenarios...

EGR valves are an integral part of an engine's emission control systems, designed by a large bunch of very qualified people so as to comply with the law. Without them we would still have 1980's levels of air pollution, something which was decidedly unacceptable back then and is even more so now we have twice as many cars on the roads.

Yet somehow you feel you have the right to ignore legislation because in your own mind the engine will run better and last longer. Whether or not it does is irrelevant, the facts are that unilaterally deciding to ignore the law and the general good of others is an act of selfishness.

To be clear, it has sod all to do with what I choose to drive, and everything to do with the fact that I choose to comply with the law, something you clearly feel you are above. Nothing in any of your posts provides a valid reason for breaking the law, a law which exists to try in some way to keep the air we breathe a bit cleaner.

And the law is about emissions on the MOT if you can pass without a EGR then no law broken. And yes if you look at engine design EGR's are to pass a test not for the benefit of consumption or performance.

Are you telling me you believe your RR fully legal is as good for the environment as a 1l fiesta meeting same legal requirements.

Maybe using your logic ford drivers are less selfish than is RR drivers.

Anyway I don't even have an EGR as I drive a petrol. So I'm not breaking any laws.

A fellow L322 owner had done some research on EGRs in VAG engines and found it was also designed to manage EGTs, in combination with the fuel management system. It can be used to quickly drop EGTs by reducing the amount of O2 inducted. ______________________________
