Now a days it is, the old Land Rovers were plated to tow in that region, but with the entry in to the Censored EU, we had a 3.5 ton max trailer weight imposed on us Evil or Very Mad

Where are you getting 5.2 tons from?

Alistair, bud there is no way that they have spent too long on the car they haven't even had it 24 hours before they called Shocked So quick that I'm now flapping about trying to get a lift to pick it up.... wasn't expecting the car back until the end of the week Shocked Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... 3.6 TDV8 towing 5.2te (inc' trailer). The FF did this many many times and the trip included a mile up a 1 in 8 plus several shorter but steeper climbs yet never had to come below 45 (B roads - not motorways - so no run up). No problems at all and compared to the D3 before it chalk & cheese (engine not chassis).

getting 5.2 from the above. I agree thought it was 3.5t max

Arrr I see now, the 3.5 tons max weight is the trailer weight not the total Train Weight which is nearer 6.6 tons for a ffrr towing a trailer Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Valve bodies are serviceable items. In this country people only service via fluid and filter changes ( if that.) Valve bodies are serviceable.

Whoever rebuilt your transmission didn't service the valve body. This is like doing an oil change without changing the filter.

Ok lets do some clarification..... when the gearbox was rebuilt in September 2014 the valve body was serviced, it had new seals and gaskets. But what it didn't have is the Sonnex replacement valves, where they enlarge the valve port and insert a new valve seat, because at the time it was very specialised work requiring expensive jigs, and only a handful of companies offered this service. 18 months on the Sonnex re-valved body is more widely available, as more gearboxes require the re-valve treatment and demand has risen and more companies have invested in the kit Thumbs Up

I dare say that most gearbox builders would prefer to fit a new valve body and have done with it...... BUT, GM in their wisdom produced several different valve bodies for the same gearbox for different applications and then cocked up the part numbers..... net result you buy a new one and it don't work with your gearbox Evil or Very Mad So they have to re-seat the valves, to ensure that it will work..... Which involves several thousands of pounds worth of kit.... and this is just for 1 type of box for one application..... it doesn't surprise me that valve body specialists are very few and far between Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Just out of interest I sometimes have to replace the main pressure control valve in 5HP24s with the oversized Sonnax valve if it gives a poor vacuum reading (indicating excessive leakage through wear).

You can see the Sonnax reaming fixture that I use in the photos below.

Phil, from what I can gather you need a different jig for each valve block and I've been lead to believe that they ain't cheap either.... and this is the reason that some places will do the GM valve bodies and others the ZF.... but I'll assume that because there are more peep's offering this service either the price of the kit has come down or the demand has risen.... All I know is in 2014 when you searched Sonnex nearly all the pages that popped up were from the States.... this year there are a few in the UK Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
