What first

OK wrongly or rightly purchased a 2004 fullfat vogue ,body work and car all seem very clean.just no service history.will a dealer beable to tell me any service history from their data base espesciallly when I won't be using them for any works?
The car is booked in to a local independent ,as recommended by some of you on the forum, and I hope he will not find too much wrong.Concerned about the lack of history so thinking full service including change of oils to box as a must any idea of what this'd may cost and any thing else that would be wise to do on a vehicle of this age.?Cheers

full fluids change, so

engine oil and fiter
gearbox oil and filter
both diff oils
transfer box oil
coolant change correct type replace blue with blue and pink/orange with pink/orange
brake fluid (often forgotten but should be replaced every 5 years)

for this little lot I wouldn't expect much change out of £8/900......

then also check

check of all bushes and ball joints as well as ARB drop links
check of gaiters on track rods
check of gaiters on the driveshaft CV joints

check of discs and pads
good look for oil leaks
check the suspension works as it should up/down
check the transfer box switches between high and low

any main dealer will be able to tell you if the car has received any service from them or in the network, but not if it was done at an independent garage. They should tell you even if you don't plant to use them. after all how do they know you wont...... Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammeršŸ˜œšŸ˜œ

Hopefully the radio and sat nav works but just to be sure check in the rear passenger side compartment and under the spare wheel for any signs of water. Also check the condition of the upper tailgate rubber seal for condition, particularly where it goes round the top two corners. Any doubts as to condition I would recommend changing it.

look at the rear wheel arch where it meets the bottom of the rear doors (open the rear passenger doors and look down backwards towards the sill and wheel arch) for corrosion as that's where mine has gone and needs fixed.

Ok car taken into stockport landrover services who inspected my new purchase.Only concerns noticed other than the faults previously noticed was.
Play in rear ball joint top and bottom
Air mass sensor unplugged ,anyone able to shed light on what this is and does ,is it detremental to the vehicle not being connected?
Air suspension pump very weak.
All in all thought probs could be more severe any oine give me an approx cost of these jobs individually as now need to negotiate with the dealer as i wouldnt trust him to put air in the tyres.
Cheers

Not quite sure how your motor is running without the MAF. when they get dirty, they affect the running quite badly. Simple part to replace.c. £85?

I think it runs on default fuel maps without the maf, so might feel a bit flat power wise..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Mark can you get a quote from Stockport LR for the jobs they've identified ?

You might struggle getting anything out of the dealer post purchase to be honest. Unless something has gone catastrophically wrong with the car you are talking wear and tear / service items and the usual state of play for one of these vehicles.

How does your Rangey actually drive. Are there any obvious issues or warning messages / lights flashing up. When is the MOT due and has it had any sort of basic oil service at point of purchase. Does the engine oil seem clean and what's the coolant look like when checking the resovoir.

Many may disagree but if your basic safety items are ok, and the engine / drivetrain are performing as intended, why not just try running the car for a few weeks and see how it goes. It's easy to get over zealous and start chasing problems on a new vehicle and dealers or specialists alike will be all to pleased to take money from you.

I'd try running it for a bit and if there are are huge issues that spring up with use, approach the dealer with a clear idea on the issues and costs involved that you would require them to rectify. There is lots of advice online in relation to sale of goods act and obligations of dealers but I think everything needs to be reasonable and proportionate in that you can't expect a full refurbishment to as new standards when it's a used vehicle.

Presumably if you bought a car with no history, then you got it for a good price.

It sounds like the list of jobs is fairly light - and as already stated, are really wear & tear items - so IMHO you got lucky.

Try claiming from the dealer by all means, but I'd just take it on the chin - get the work done, change all the fluids as listed above and move on Thumbs Up

The air suspension pump for example should be an easy fix, there are kits available for about £25 and YouTube instruction videos on how to sort it. (It's that easy even I managed to do it!) although you do need sometimes need a computer afterwards to reset it.

Been quoted£400 top and bottom ball joints off sixe and near side, replacement one of those jobs that could be areal pig to do so not sure if a good price.
Qu0ted £300 replace air pump
£500 full service inc all oils coolantz and fluids to be replaced inc change of gear box oil
Sounds cheap for a full service although previous vehicle was a cayenne and tvr tuscan
