United States 2012 Range Rover Autobiography Supercharged Orkney Grey
Received surprise, special delivery today

Wasn't expecting until late in the week. Purchased site unseen from a LR dealer over a thousand miles away. Got if off the truck and went straight for a touch-less wash. It is in great condition and drives like new. Overall, I'm very satisfied but there are a few issues.

1) There's quite a lot of wind noise coming into the cabin above 40 mph. There has to be some bad seal(s) around the windshield and/or windows. Can't figure out exactly where the wind noise is coming from yet but know enough to say that it's far from normal. I know this cabin should be insulated pretty well and fairly quite at highway speeds.
2) The hood closes fine but when I press down on it when in closed position there's a little play (very little movement up and down). I don't think the hood should move at all when closed. This may somehow be causing wind noise in the cabin.
3) It was missing the rear cargo cover so I asked the dealer to get one for me as I thought it should come with the truck and somebody told me that it was an item on the checklist for Certified Pre-Owned. Well, they gave me one alright, a piece of garbage. It looks like they got it out of the trash (or the sales manager jumped up and down on it before it was installed). It's stained, worn around the edges and doesn't even fit properly for some reason. I will have to call the dealer and complain. Can somebody confirm if the rear cargo lid is special in any way to the Autobiography (e.g., leather or two-toned like the seats) or is that lid just standard across all trim levels?
4) I asked the dealer to skip any interior cleaning. You might think I'm crazy (my wife does) but I HATE the smell of used cars. The dealers will usually use crap leather care products making that beautiful and intoxicating leather smell go away instantly. These products are also to blame for making the leather appear and feel shiny. For the most part, the leather's in great shape but needs some TLC in the form of a good cleaning and conditioning. And there's even a faint smell of leather left in the cabin. Does anybody have a good recommendation for a leather cleaner/conditioner that might enhance or even bring that fine semi-aniline leather smell? I use Leather Masters Matte Cream Protectant and it does an amazing job making the leather look almost new again, but it doesn't do much for the smell. Any tips?
5) Must remove that front license plate bracket, unnecessary in my state and destroys the front asthetic. Only issue is that it has a clear bra on the front so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I don't feel like removing bra and having the whole bumper re-sprayed for a few screw holes. Any thoughts?

I'll post more pictures and comments in the coming weeks. Thanks!

Hi,

Nice looking car, and me being me, would keep the kit on!

I have the genuine rack plus ladder. The ladder is American made.

or

The ladder is bolted on! Rack is easy to remove with two people.

Cheers, Jerry

So I've decided to keep the Exterior Design Package intact because it's growing on me. At some point, however, I would like to paint the front grille (upper and lower portions) surrounds and the chrome like finish on the side gills gloss black to match the headlight surrounds.
Took it into service this morning to get the air leak sorted out and the service manager thought it was a new body style. The EDP does give it more of a modern look. I really like the back and, like I said, the front is growing on me.

The original owner spec'd the plain leather steering wheel. I think that I will order a wood/leather one but can't decided because it's so expensive at about $1800. Anybody know where I can buy OEM wood/leather wheel for a better price than a US LR retail parts department?

Hey Jerry, that's a nice rack!

That looks very nice, although is the front licence plate holder squint? Sorry it caught my eye!

I'm in Danbury, CT about 20 minutes from Newtown.

I know, that license plate holder was driving me nuts so I removed it to find not two, not four but SIX medium size screw holes in the front bumper. Not sure what to do with it now because the original owner put a clear bra on front bumper.
Don't think that I can touch up these screw holes over the clear bra. I will take it to a body shop and see if they can plug the holes and touch up. They will probably have to remove the clear film though. Time will tell.

Wow, forgot just how horrendous these tanks are on fuel. Barely drove the thing but already went through a tank of premium (a little less than $3/gallon where I live). Consider yourself lucky to be able to own diesel L322s, such a natural choice.
This beast makes my F10 M5 seem economical to drive. Laughing

$3/US Gal. In the UK we pay the equivalent of $5.35/ US Gal 56.07% more Big Cry
Not sure of US cost of living but to us $3/gal seems economical Thumbs Up

UK £4.46/ UK gal. (£3.71/US gal)

$3 = £2.08

Andy

Nice car by the way Thumbs Up

Around me many stations charge more for diesel vs premium unleaded. More of a modern phenomenon because I always remember diesel being less than regular unleaded.
What's your cost for diesel? Also, I can't imagine that they sell many V8 Supercharged when you can buy a big diesel...

Diesel is pretty much the same price as ordinary unleaded over here. We also have a premium Diesel over here - which I don't seem to recall you guys have.

Wow. That's bad, they can't figure out what's wrong with it? Well you can pick up a pre-owned 2014 for a fairly reasonable price. Don't get me wrong, I love the E60 M5 for that lovely V10.
