At this present moment in time it is nothing more than an idea, as the bloody gearbox has gone fubar again

Having had Diesel engines for over 20 years, a good scrape and then soak and brushing with Diesel cleans most of the crud off. Intercooler can also get gunged up, again fill with Diesel overnight and flush out with water, not a pressure hose as it is a little fragile.

Yep I found that site too. I presume we need two bottles, one for each intake hose? |

This pic is also similar to my TDV8 intake and and after removing the intake and egrs to clean i have concluded but open to correction the following This gooey crud is a result of egr gasses mixing with the intake. It it what you will find in the intake after the point the egr pipe enters the intake. The intake will be cleaner and not have this goo present in the intake before the egr. To prove this remove your Inter cooler hose, its still has a oily film but it is nothing like you will find post egr. As can be seen my left intake clean prior to the egr, the can be seen on the left after the throttle, yes its that hard to make out thing. So being it is clean prior to throttle this would suggest the intercooler will also be cleaner than the intake as mentioned previously. This pic is the right intake with the throttle removed, im sure that sensor if functioning was not operating correctly. The egr pipe can be seen clearly protruding into the intake and there you have the start of the mess. Some goo can be seen also upstream, im guessing it may enter the intake with some pressure or its cased by back pressure or both. Pic of end of intake. Egr valve pipe very clean Egr valve is cleaner than photo looks cleans up perfect in 2 minutes. I'm guessing the rest of the exhaust would be similarly clean and turbos even better with the additional heat. There is no way an additive will clean all the sludge out off the intake. Only manual cleaning will do that. The cleaning is easy just dirty. But an additive would help clean out the looser layer and clean the the sensors. You can spray can after can of of throttle body cleaner into the manifold with it off trying to clean it and you will go broke in the process. I scraped mine, hi pressure water sprayed it, used cans of throttle body cleaner and stuffed rags through it several times to clean it the best i could and still some oil kept coming out. The egrs gasses are the problem and if you can stop the cause that's a good start . There is no easy way to clean the rest of the intake so i think that's where a regular intake treatment will be helpfull and over time with the egrs out of the picture the rest of the intake would probably improve. But otherwise treatments will only band aid the situation. I don't think the intake goo would have any impact on the turbos. |

I hear what you are saying, but my TD6 had some of the dreaded goo coating the inside of the pipe that came from the intercooler, before the EGR....... as I got plastered in the bloody stuff when I removed my EGR valve

When I bought my tdv8 the documentation showed big bills for having both knackered egr valves replaced with new, car had 124500mls on it, I have religiously put in a full bottle of redex EVERY time I fill up, for the last year, whether I fill the tank or not, at around £3-4 a bottle I see it as, preventative maintenance,I'm terrified of me turbos curling up on me so I'm going to give the revive stuff a go too and prob strip down as much of the induction side for a clean out. 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I tool the inlet manifold off and cleaned it with oven cleaner then soaked it over night in a concentrate of degreaser and hot water over night, it came up spotless. After that I fitted am egr blanker so it will never get to that state again. |
