Soaking wet N/S A Pillar... Where to start?

Hi All,

I have discovered this evening after leaving the RR parked up for a week during heavy Scottish rain that water has made its way into the cabin. The area most wet is the N/S a pillar trim - it's absolutely soaking there - and the passenger door is quite wet on the inside. There is also some water on the footwell and carpet but not as wet here. The roof lining in this area is a bit moist.

It is this framed area where I have found all the water:

I have read many threads about wet footwells (caused by sunroof drains) but cannot find any on soaking wet A pillar trims and doors... Can anyone please advise where I should start off looking? Incidentally, I've noticed that the heated windscreen isn't working properly lately, it only heats a couple of small vertical strips now...

Many thanks in advance,

If the drain in that corner is blocked, the water cannot escape so will overflow into the area above the A pillar trim...

Have a read of this... http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic35621.html

Are you handy with tools/DIY? If not take it to a garage and ask them to blow out the drain tubes sir... Thumbs Up

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Not too bad with the toolkit, happy to have a go at simple things if it saves trips to the garage.

Noticed today that the A pillar is drying out but under the passenger front rubber mat the carpet is soaking Sad I also noticed some electrical gremlins:

- The N/S mirror is now adjusting to a very strange position when I start it up
- The warnings "Slow Down" and "Select Neutral" have randomly popped up once each when turning on and in normal driving
- I've seen the lights moving up and down and the suspensions fidgeting when first switching on

This has only started today after the water ingress yesterday. Could this all be related to blocked drains and damp carpets under the passenger seat?? Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Many thanks

Slow down I think you would see if you were driving on high suspension setting
Select Neutral I think you would see if you try to change from hi to Lo or viceversa.
I often see my lights adjust on starting especially if not parked on level ground so think that is maybe normal. I have no suggestions of a cure for the other two though, have to wait till some adult comes along. Smile

Had the same leak and the car went mental for a few days, I think there's an ECU behind the glove box. There is also a fuse box.

Fixed by blowing compressed air into the drain. 2004 L322 V8

More help needed please!

Hi all,

Thanks to your spot on advice so far, with the first bit of daylight today I tested the sunroof drains and found that the front N/S passenger drain is completely blocked. I poured water into that corner and it didn't even go into the hole. I had to mop it up from the tray... The other side drained like a dream.

I've bought hard telephone cable and started feeding it down through the drain hole but it only goes down as far as about 5", then it just won't budge at all. Same on the other side. I read some threads from the previous owner of my car on here and he also was never able to get a wire any further down than that.

As my drain is completely blocked on that side I'm worried about the next batch of heavy Scottish rain here. We've already got a fair bit of snow which is melting on it just now..

Does anyone have any tips for other ways to I could go about unblocking this drain please?

Many thanks

Please do be careful not to ram wire/welding wire down the hole as you could spear through the side of the pipe...

There is a simple rubber/plastic hose that runs between the sunroof and the floor so, you may need to strip the pillar etc out to get to the tube/pipe to manipulate/clear it...

Easiest way is compressed air.

If this blows the pipe off the fitting then you have to take off the sun visor etc to be able to pull down the headlining to access the hose and clean/reattach it.

Would start with the air rather than opening things up. 2004 L322 V8

Solved!

Thanks all, your help has been much appreciated.

I couldn't actually get the A pillar trim off, because I couldn't remove the "Airbag" logo as recommended on here to expose the screw. I absolutely massacred the plastic trying to get it off but it wouldn't budge... What's the trick?!

So I used my air pump and attached a small filter to the end of it which gripped securely around the bottom of the drain under the car. I then pressed air gently through the drain tube and heard some gurgling from the top of the sunroof. I removed the pump and a few splashes of mucky water came out. Don't know what the block was though??

I've then tested it by pouring a litre of hot water through and it now flows freely, all exiting on the driveway without any leaks into the car. Result!

Many thanks again for all your help! Thumbs Up Very Happy 2002 Range Rover Td6 Vogue
