There is a long history of vehicle makers giving significant discounts to police etc.

I don't understand why a pen pushing Chief Constable needs a RangeRover in the first place and why on earth does he need a chauffeur, does he not have a driving licence.

As for anyone, CEO or senior executive, in that salary range, scarcely cost effective to be spending his time driving around looking for a parking space. . John

There's perfectly adequate public transport in London. |

You've clearly never driven in central London - or tried to park.... Public transport works for commuting, but not really for getting around during the day unless you happen to be lucky with routing. For anyone in a senior position, whose time is at a premium, a driver makes sense - whether that's a taxi / minicab or dedicated car & driver is a different debate. Given the amount of time he's likely to spend out and about - a dedicated driver can probably be justified - so what car would you give him ? |

Functional doesn't equate to effective. John

It's not like he's on the beat either - so his uniform is a waste of time too - jeans & a t-shirt would be perfectly functional |
