Typical Daily Mail sensationalism. If (and that's a big if) it cost £65k, can somebody point me to the dealer that sold a VSE with such a whopping discount. I reckon that car will be a loaner from Land Rover, hence the special terms. I'd rather the Met Commissioner was seen in a British car than a German one. Its bad enough his flat foots have to drive around in Hyundais!

There is a long history of vehicle makers giving significant discounts to police etc.

Just thinking out loud, I wonder if they do it for advertising purposes or for research and development i.e. seeing if the vehicle will stand the rigours of service and being able to glean information about what breaks when.

I don't understand why a pen pushing Chief Constable needs a RangeRover in the first place and why on earth does he need a chauffeur, does he not have a driving licence.
Waste of money whatever it cost.

As for anyone, CEO or senior executive, in that salary range, scarcely cost effective to be spending his time driving around looking for a parking space. . John

You've clearly never driven in central London - or tried to park....

Public transport works for commuting, but not really for getting around during the day unless you happen to be lucky with routing.

For anyone in a senior position, whose time is at a premium, a driver makes sense - whether that's a taxi / minicab or dedicated car & driver is a different debate.

Given the amount of time he's likely to spend out and about - a dedicated driver can probably be justified - so what car would you give him ?
