ive tried every method I can find to reset the service indicator on my 52 reg vogue with no joy , is there a known fault with the instrument binnacle that stops it from being performed ??

No known fault I am aware of.

Here is the procedure from the wiki (tried and tested)

Resetting the Oil Service or Service Interval Message 02-<05
Ignition key must be “off”

Press and hold the trip odometer button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position (KLR).
Keep the button pressed for approximately 5 seconds until one of the following words appear in the display: “OIL SERVICE, or “INSPECTION”, with “reset”.
Release the reset button and press and hold it again until “reset” begins to flash.
While the display is flashing, press the left button briefly to reset the service interval.
After the display has shown the new interval, the following will appear: “END SIA”.

Does the trip reset work?

You had the binnacle out the other day? Did it all go back properly? Dislodge something?

and you tried with the door open as well ? .

just been and tried it again with the drivers door open , nada , only thing I can see that changes is where the mileage is shown , that flashes 5 times with the figure -31425 the it returns to the vehicle miles but all of this only happens with the ignition on and not in KLR

Hi,

I had a problem similar to this, my date wasn't set correctly after I changed the battery out. I changed the date and carried out the service reset in the wiki and it worked, well for me anyway....

Good luck ______________________________

I am presuming the flashing -31425 is related to service ??

Yes it's the mileage countdown to, or the number of miles past a service.... ______________________________

this is odd as the box next to that read out has service - oil service in it but they are not lit , I have a mate with a 525d that refuses to let me reset the 'past service due' even thow I have a main dealer level diag tool

There is a bulb behind the service / oil service window, have you checked to see if it's ok..

I pulled this from the handbook -

When the starter switch is turned to position ‘I’, a ‘countdown’ to when the next service is due appears in the total distance travelled display (arrowed in inset). A minus sign preceding the distance indicates that the service interval point has been exceeded and this is the distance by which it is overdue.
After approximately five seconds, the display reverts to show just the total distance travelled.
The mileage countdown is controlled by the engine management system and is adjusted to allow for driving style and conditions, to gauge when the appropriate service becomes necessary.

well no pal , I had the clocks out the other day for an unrelated matter but did swap a bulb ( not that one) even still , surely the procedure should work wether the wording is illuminated or not ??

Yes it should you're right. How does your ignition feel when you turn the key? Is it a bit sloppy?

I'm just wondering if your inadvertently skipping past the 1st position, it's easily done as the barrel isnt the best piece of engineering..... ______________________________
