Suspension had dropped

Some advice!!

Range rover 4.4tdv8 autobiography 2011, just did a round trip to Bradford, car drove great without any issues.

Once I got back home, had to drive to Lakeside, not too far from where I live , was doing around 70 and all of a sudden had all these warning signs come up and max speed I can do was 30mph, the suspension had dropped and basically you can imagine what the ride was.

Parked the car up and turn it off, started it up again and the suspension was raised to its normal height and the car drives fine now.

I am now afraid to take this on a long trip just in case it happens again. No warning lights are showing.

Anyone had a similar issue.

Also my paddle shift has been disabled and it has been like this since I brought the car hence reason why I paid a lot less for the car.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I don’t want to get ripped off from the garage

Cheers

You are probably losing air from a cracked air bad that has now sealed itself in a fold . Get some soapy water and inspect each air spring at all different heights but my money is on front offside .

+1 did the same thing on mine. Filled sprayer bottle up with soapy water and found the fault.

Thanks will give that a go.

Did a short trip yesterday, 2 miles and the car dropped again, turned the engine off and on and it was fine. Would this still mean its the Air bags on the suspension have a leak or something else?

I have seen some dreadful stories where people have changed the tank, compressor and all sorts but still having the same issue.

Thanks again for your help!

Your symptoms would indicate a leak, what usually happens is you get a small leak but don't know because the pump can keep up with the air leaving the system, the first you know about it is when the pump gives up as the poor thing has been working flat out for weeks on end.... this is easily done on the later ones where you can't really hear the pump so don't realise that it has been working flat out...

Hopefully you have found it early and you can do a bit of self diagnostics with help from this site so you are forearmed with information before heading to a garage...

If is usually the air bags that go but it is possible to have a chaffed pipe, holed air tank or damaged valve etc...

Put it in off road, keep your finger on the button (or however it works on yours) and get it into extended off road height, leave a door open and listen by every wheel arch and you may even hear it.....

If it's a front bag then you should get both done as the shock absorber is integral, insist on genuine or OEM, don't use Dunlop ones, they are not too good... Delphi are the preferred make

Good luck and keep us posted.... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.

Sorry if I sound a little not with it, first time I have had a range rover since buying one back in 1996, which was a nightmare due to many problems.

I just recently took the plunge and brought a tdv8 2011 with the overfinch kit, it’s a lovely car don’t get me wrong, but just want to get these issues sorted out so I can enjoy my ride with the family.

OK back to the topic, would the car still be standing high with a leak, I had it parked for a few days and its still sitting in the normal ride height position.

in normal height the bag could be hidng the hole and sealing it, in
off road mode the bag is stretched higher and reveals more of the bag and thats possibly where the hole is.. ... - .- -.

Hi

OK took it for a drive after work last night, drove fine no sudden surprises, I also drove on off road mode with the highest clearance setting to see if anything would happen which didn’t. Left car in this setting overnight. This morning suspension has stayed the same, hasn’t dropped at all, so I am assuming it’s not the bags??

Maybe could be more towards a valve?

You input be greatly appreciated

Wales 2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Bonatti Grey

earlier this year we were away on Holiday, came out one morning and the Ff was 'on the floor'. On starting, no warnings or faults and returned to normal height. Over the next couple of weeks, intermittently it dropped down. Thought possibly an air leak, so left it overnight in off road height, and din't drop at all. Then invested in an IID tool, fault code 'right rear suspension sensor voltage out of limits'. Replaced the sensor, re-calibrated the suspension and all has been fine ever since. The old sensor had developed a 'flat spot' - don't know if this is relevant to you, but may be worth checking for fault codes? Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Thanks for the input.

Sounds logical, I could just have a faulty sensor, Just rand the Mrs and she tells me the car is still sitting high up on the off road mode, so I feel it cant be leak in the system, but heh who knows.

So where can i get this IID tool

cheers!!
