Tailgate struts

My wife has just come in complaining she hit her head on the rear tailgate, tbf it does seem to be opening slowly and not that wide.
Any mods or fixes for this??
Cheers

'wide' or 'high'? I changed my 2 rear struts on my L322, think they were about £20 or £30 a pair, cant remember but it now opens with enough force to launch a small child into space. 5 minutes to fit

sounds like the struts are knackered, its a common problem and simple fix. I got mine online but maybe try Dan at Duckworths for the parts

I read somewhere if it will hold the hatch open at 45* they're ok , but the truth is they'll show themselves in colder weather ...
When the hatch is unlatched it should take minimal effort to open it around 6" and after that it goes up on its own .

5 minute job to replace them one at a time , but get assistance to hold the wieght as you remove the old ones ...

When I was checking the engine oil yesterday morning my FF tried to eat me!!! Shocked , the bonnet came down and hit me on the head knocking my glasses off, that is one heavy piece of kit. Lack of hair to cushion the impact doesnt help either. Rolling Eyes
I will use a piece of wood as a prop till i can replace the struts.

I'm not sure if they are gas filled but with my other car the same thing happens in winter, low temperatures = gas pressure drops plus as has been said, probibly knackered struts as well.

Forget the wood , it's easy enough to put it in the service position ..
