Tow Bar - Alco

I have the hitch pictured which I believe to be a Witter, would you knowledgeable chaps and chappeses know if this is ok for any Caravan as I heard you need a Swan neck for an Alco chassis, which I find hard to believe ?

I am watching this with interest to see if there is any intrinsic reason why this wouldn't be suitable. Strength wise, I have used exactly that fitting on a Defender 90 V8 to pull broken down 44t attics from a standing start... uphill!

So long as it has a 50mm ball on it which is clean it will be fine for a caravan.

Folks say you need a swan neck as there can be clearance issues on a normal flange bar with the Alko hitch stabiliser, your ball an pin hitch may have issues in terms of how high the ball sits and how much clearance there is round the base of the ball once the hitchhead stabiliser is on.

However you could simply replace the ball and pin with an alko ball (available from eBay for cheap should be about £10) and all will be fine but I would try it with a van on first. Thumbs Up the actual bit which attaches to the car is totally fit for purpose so long as it is well attached Thumbs Up

Something like this. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/AL-KO-ALKO-Style-T...nav=SEARCH There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for that, great stuff.

I bought this hitch as very versatile with the pin and is actually longer from the car than a std one, about 100mm ( as I found out with parking sensors - bang into a wall) Many thanks
