Squeaking noise

Hi Guys, so over the last few days, I have noticed a fast intermittent squeaking noise when the car is idling first thing in the morning. It seems to speed up as you pull away, but vanishes when up to 20 ish but returns at idling again when you reach the end of the road (about 200 yards). However, after half a mile or so, it then seems to have gone completely, and you don’t hear it again until the next morning. Its parked up all day, so it is cold in the evening when I start it, but the squeaking doesn’t return.

Not had chance to look under the bonnet yet, but am I right in thinking it is one of the belts that needs replacing, or would something have become misaligned?

If it is a belt, is it best to get them all done at the same time, and what would be the cost, an ideas?

Cheers

Bearing squeal? Tensioner and idle bearings could be at fault.

Thanks for the reply.

ok, need to find an easy way to identify what it is before i take it in. The chirp chirp chirp will do me in if i leave it for a while. Looking around some say put a spray of water or wd40 (not sure about that on rubber) on each belt to see if it stops it.

Any recommendation without taking belts off and turning the wheels first?

Hi, did you get to the bottom of this ? Mine has very similar, only when cold, within a few mins it's gone. I had a listen this morning & thought it might be one of the belt pulleys but hard to pin point.

It was the tensioner which needed doing and had the 2 belts done at the same time. The spring had stretched so for the cost, having it all done seemed the best thing to do.

Could just be the belt put a little talc powder on belt and see if if stops it if it does then change the belt

Well I eventually got round to getting this squeaking noise fixed, the noise was getting worse & the service & mot was due so made sense to get it sorted at the same time. Independant specialist diagnosed belt tensioner but advised replacing both belts & idler pulleys too. Anyway I picked her up yesterday & started her from cold this morning to no horrible squeaking noise 😁
It's been an expensive few weeks with this plus car insurance plus road tax too so hopefully that's it till service next year 😬
