Good point actually; I'm not sure (oh dear me...what was wrong with the simple key?! Laughing ). I guess that may mean the ECUs are wired such that it will work without (?), but otherwise, I don't know. Confused I'd try it without anyway. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Or leave the live connected to the battery , disconnect the earth lead, then connect a wire from the live lead to the disconnected earth terminal lead and that will drain the residual power Thumbs Up

Sadly a battery hard reset hasn't cleared the problem, Crying or Very sad

Next I thought I'd check the fuse for the Forward Alert to see if it had blown but the handbook doesn't list any fuse for it. Does anyone know which fuse it is ?

thanks.

I don't, sorry but when mine goes into a fault with the forward alert the adaptive cruise no longer works (they do use the same radar)

I did mess with mine via IID though and have the Jag queue assist adaptive setting enabled so not exactly standard. Ash

no worries folks - guess I'll book it in at the local dealers to see what they say it is.
I'll report back here for closure for folk when I know what the root problem is.
cheers.

Well - with still about 2 weeks to go before the dealer will look at the problem.....but....
It seems the problem has resolved itself. Ive no idea why. I've not done anything to the car but now the forward alerts is fully working and has been for the last few days without any problem.
I guess the obvious thought is "a loose" wire - but it's pointless me going ahead getting the dealer to look at it if past experience is anything to go by - they can't be arsed ...ahem...sorry, "don't have the time" to investigate intermittent faults - they only want stuff that is staring them in the face.

Anyways, I'll keep an eye on it and report back if it fails again.

Afraid not. It behaved itself after that. All I could guess was just a software glitch.

On mine one of the height sensors is going bad (new one on order). When it loses the signal (and you can see it "drop away" on the 4x4 info screen) the suspension alert comes in. That then knocks off the forward alert and cruise control as well.

Turn of the ignition and start again and you can set up forward alert again (until the suspension fault comes back).

When I dove underneath the sensor connector was full of crud (someone before me has been doing some serious mud running in it). Cleaned it out etc, but that didn't solve the problem. Also the arm seems bent (maybe due to the suspension being taken off due to the ridiculous NZ corrosion rules for import, the entire underbody and rear subframe were blasted and epoxy coated).

Anyway, the suspension fault triggers the issue in mine.

Not sure which other faults in the daisy chain could trigger it!!!

By the way, once the forward alert has been switched off by the car, you need to turn it on manually!!! It won't come back by itself after the "reset/restart" !!!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
