Short term SIM UK

Hi all,

It looks like I will be able to visit the UK for a few weeks at the end of the year (20 Dec to 9 Jan) after all (job has finished so I finally get to drive the 5.0 again !!!!) so I'm looking for a cheap SIM only with lots of data and some calling option. What can you recommend ??

I found this website, would this work ??

I use giffgaff which is based on a SIM only 30 day rolling period and you top up as you need and pick a bundle for each month (depending on usage required).

The £7.50 or £10 normally gets me through the month but if you want data the £12 bundle is not bad. You just order the sim to a UK address, activate it on their website using instructions in the envelope, top up by an initial £10 also on their website and pick the bundle and away you go

If you use the link below to order, you'll get an additional £5 on top of the £10 you top up (and I get £5 as well):

https://www.giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/shalz7

After you're done, you can just chuck the SIM away (but lose any credit or bundle balance you have on it) or keep it as it stays active for 6 months with no use.

Hope that helps. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Depends where you're staying & whether you will have a good 3/4G signal - IMHO coverage is more important than price - not sure if you can check in advance.

I was very happy with a SIM I got from Three - £20 for unlimited data plus plenty of voice minutes & SMS Thumbs Up I picked one up from a store

Thanks guys. I will be mostly around London and Reading area. Just want to get one for me and my wife to make communication easy and cheap and allow us to use our gadgets while travelling. We're only going to be there for a good 3 weeks visiting friends and family and it is just easier to call for low cost iso using our Malaysian SIMs Smile. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Don't know if the data allowance is sufficient for you but I use a Tesco pay as you go when in UK. It has some advantages on free top up ( the free bit generally lasts for a month) in addition to the paid for element. The other benefit is that the unused credit does not seem to be time limited. I have gone nearly a year between uses and still retained the credit.

Might suit you.

I looked at Giffgaff but was put off by not being able to purchase and activate until actually in UK. TBF that may have changed or not be a problem for you. Tesco was over the counter at the store which, for the first time, was more convenient. After that you can top up on line.
