Need new rims for the winter tires

I'm currently looking for a set of 20" winter wheels for the ffrr. The winter wheels that followed the car when I bought it this summer, was 19" HSE style with 275/45 R19 tires. The tires are in very good conditions, very little wear. However these wheels are too tiny for the car - doesn't look good IMO. It's almost as if the deployable sidesteps touches the ground when deployed... So either I have to buy new winter tires with bigger dimensions; 255/55R19 or 265/55R19 (or 275/50 R19) - or new 20" rims and tires altogether. Most interested in the last option at the moment.

I'm therefore looking at ebay++ and from wheel dealers (in Norway and in the UK), and I stumbled upon this offer: https://www.gumtree.com/p/wheel-rims-tires...1138813805 ?

Anyone that knows this seller? Can this offer be legitime?

Hmm - I've been looking at similar wheels at ebay, e.g. this one: http://r.ebay.com/WPJlBu
How come you get 4 at almost the same price as one?

They are RR Sport tyres which technically *may* not have sufficient load rating to be fitted to the full fat RR. (generally, the RR sport alloys are lower rated) It would be something worth looking into for complete peace of mind if it were me. There

Regarding winter tyres: I would fit proper sized tyres to the 19's. My reasoning being that if you are in snowy icy conditions, then I would want as much rubber height as possible should you slip and hit the kerb, rather than bashing alloy metal. ( as an aside, I've just put an order in for compomotive 18's to fit to mine that I can fit taller winter rubber ).

Then be on the lookout for a nicer set of 20's to fit summer tyres to for the rest of the year. V8 or else ...

TBH your better sticking with the correct FF wheels and correct tyre size rather than using sport wheels and tyre sizes. They aren't as tall IMO and not really in keeping with the car, especially for winter stuff Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks for the advice - it might be that I need to reconsider this!

I havent give up buying the 10 spoke RRS set, but I think that 275/45R20 is slightly too small in diameter for the ffrr. The max load shouldnt be a problem for these rims, similar to the ffrr.
If I buy new rims and tires, I will be able to sell the existing 19" winter wheels Smile - hopefully less total costs. It does not feel right either to throw away good 275/45 R19 winter tires either.

It is possible to buy 265/50 R20 nordic witer tires - will these fit a 9,5J rim? Or will the 9,5J rim require 275 width ?

255 is the standard width so can't see a problem with 265 , the aspect ratio surely makes no difference to fitment .I now wish I had gone up to 285/50/20 when I changed my tyres . 2008 MY Supercharged

I'll say it.... Don't buy the rrs set. By a ffrr set, they are out there and makes for peace of mind.

As for tyre size, upto 275 should be fine, 285 with care and minimal fettling. Aspect ratio does make a big difference. I would say that you can generally go up one ratio (50 to 55) provided you aren't upping the width too much at the same time. V8 or else ...

Hi fisha, when you say

- have you experienced that a RRS wheel fails when used on a ffrr? The wheels I'm looking at are rated 900kg (I think that ffrr wheels are rated 950kg?), they have been used on a L320 - heavyweight vehicle that as well, but of course with slightly less total gross weight than a ffrr. I've seen from this forum and other forums that many ffrr use the 20" RRS wheels on their ffrr, I haven't got the impression that genuine RRS wheels breaks down when used on a ffrr?

Have I fitted one? No - for the reason given. Stamped rear axle limit is 1850kg ... technically needs a >925kg rated wheel. RRS *may* not be upto that rating - as you say, those linked at 900kg rated. I do accept that depending on the RR's use, then you may not come close to reaching that limit. Then again, I tow a horse trailer, where the dynamic loads could multiply the loadings on the axles, and in those cases, I'd rather have that extra amount. Sounds petty perhaps, and I fully accept that others run RRS alloys on their FFRR. But its not my personal choice. ( I also didn't really like any of the RRS designs when fitted to the FFRR. the FFRR ones look better imho. )

I just think that you can get FFRR alloys in that same price to the ones you link. For example, in the for sale section right now there is a set of FFRR 19" alloys for £275 . . . Cheaper than the ones linked, standard FFRR design, fully rated etc etc

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic34340.html

I just don't think there is a need to compromise given the availability of alloys. As such, I suggested not to buy them. V8 or else ...

I ended up buying the RRS alloys from Scotland - they are on their way to Norway now Smile

I found a similiar ffrr from Sweden with the same 20" alloys, and 265/50R20 tyres - gunnarl322 in this thread: http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/6-range-r...res-3.html
i've now ordered a set of Nokian WR SUV 3 265/50 R20 to put on the alloys when they arrive.

I also found this site indicating that 255 is the max width for the std 8,5j wheel on a ffrr, and 275 the max width for a 9,5j wheel (as the RRS alloys): http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/charts/t...size-chart

According to these tables, 265/50 should then be perfect on the 20" 9,5j wheels.
But I do follow your concern, fisha, regarding the missing 25 kgs ratings - it is of course best to be on the very safe side. I will have to avvoid over-loading the ffrr during the winter season Thumbs Up
