I see that this post is dedicated to small wet islands in the northern hemisphere. At this time of the year we are checking our air-conditioners and buying windscreen sun shields - and checking for cyclones.

Less concerned with rust and more concerned with being swept downstream.

Check your rear wiper blade. Ours was tired and tired wiper blades, leave unsightly and obvious scratches on expensive to replace glass and during winter, every time you push that stalk forward to clear the crap off the rear window so you can see what is behind, you might well be scratching away at the glass if your aged wiper blade has been forgotten about.

Just replaced ours today. A bargain LR product at £20.99 Shocked

Reduced from £27.99 though Thud

You can buy polishing kits to remove scratches from glass. Wink

The rear blade is nothing special, you can get them much cheaper elsewhere.
Powerful do a complete arm, blade and washer jet kit for £50. - the pivots on the arms seize up and stop them pressing the blade on the screen properly.

Aye and if you've ever used a glass polishing kit for proper scratches you'll know that it's hours and hours of a horrible job requiring machine tools, expensive Ceriglass polish and the patience of a saint. So, just monitor the condition of wiper blades, keep your glass clean and avoid the hassle Thumbs Up

And as Stan points out, you can get wiper blades for £1 in mainstream shops.

See... My window glass is so well maintained and clean, they saw me coming for an overpriced rear wiper blade Laughing

Thumbs Up

I bought a kit for about £15 off ebay or amazon, ceriglass polish, polishing pads and holder. Worked a treat on the windscreen of my mums car. Most people already have an electric drill.

I suppose it took about an hour to bring a bad wiper arm mark to an acceptable standard.

Agreed, far better to replace the blades before it gets that bad, but it has to go a very long way to need replacement glass. Smile

Shocked Any 18" hook type wiper blade will fit, £3 for a blade Shocked I hope it was branded, you can get a pair for that kind of dosh!

Rear wiper arms do seize up, there is no quick fix that I've found Sad You need to remove the rear spoiler (3 Bolts, then slide it rearwards and lift, key hole slots), so that you can pivot the arm threw its' full travel and add some WD while your wiggling it back and forth. And we are talking about the wiper arm here folks, you could fall foul of the law if it's anything else Embarassed Laughing

It doesn't take much to get the arm working properly, but you do need the full 90 degree travel Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Just for you Zircon, it seems not everyone has found it as easy to remove scratches to a standard they're happy with, a drill isn't always going to do the job, you can buy a replacement wiper blade cheaper than a glass polishg kit and people do indeed resort to replacement glass Wink

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic18617....p;start=15

Our last one had unsightly scratches to the rear factory privacy glass because replacement of the rear blade had been neglected and the metal damaged the glass. It wouldn't polish out and left white marks visible against the 'black' glass. Thumbs Up

Check your nuts

Checked my nuts yesterday. Had the car 4 or 5 months and never checked them until now Embarassed

Worryingly, the front passenger side nuts were not well torqued at all... And one of the nuts appears slightly swollen as it was difficult to get the wheel brace onto it. Have got replacement nut stocks anyway but must be worth 5 minutes of your time checking your nuts with a wheel brace... In any weather! Thumbs Up

^^ Shocked I'd say, and bring tears to your eyes Shocked Rolling with laughter

On the earlier ffrr's, like mine, corrosion also contributes to the over sized wheel nut, LR didn't rust proof them very well Evil or Very Mad Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
