Supercharger Belt Replacement - How to?

Does anyone have the relevant Workshop Manual pages for replacing the supercharger belt?

Mine is in the garage for this in a couple of weeks, but I'm a bit alarmed that they say they will need to bend the air con pipe out of the way and it might snap. Erm, I don't think so!

Or take it off, but that involves getting the system emptied and then refilled.... Pete

Hi
I changed mine yesterday, along with the other belt. You can either drain the aircon, and remove the pipe, or give it a tweak.
I manipulated mine to get the viscous fan and shroud out, it only needs a slight movement, and has gone back no problem. The stealer wanted £465 to change both belts, which may include regassing the aircon. Someone on here who worked in a main dealer told me a while ago they tweak the pipe, and had done loads this way. it is on a flexi pipe one end anyway.
If you have time and basic mechanic skills its a job for DIY, saved me £375 just buying both belts from Land Rover. SC 4.2, 2012 face lifted, 25K miles, 1 previous owner

You guys excel as always.

Thanks Thumbs Up

I'll print the relevant bits off and give to the garage, this isn't a job I fancy doing myself. You've put my mind at rest about the pipe though if the main dealers do it too.

I have a squeal for the first 5 minutes of driving that I hope is the belts.

Hi
There's a service bulletin regarding this, LTB00067. Mine was a chirp rather than a squeal when cold, but went in a few minutes after starting up. It's the first thing I would look at for a squeal.

Google the bulletin number, and you will see the complete document. LR only done this FOC when the vehicles was under warranty.

Audible 'Chirp' on Cold Start
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
LR3 (LA) VIN: 5A300360 Onwards
Range Rover Sport (LS) VIN: 6A900290 Onwards
Range Rover (LM) VIN: 6A194480-7A257088
CONDITION SUMMARY:
BELT MOVEMENT GENERATES NOISE
Situation: Audible 'chirp' on cold start in a rhythmic pattern is heard coming from the front end
accessory drive (FEAD) belt because the drive belt is "wandering" on the idler pulley.
Action: Should a customer express concern, install a new modified idler pulley and FEAD belt. Follow
the Repair Procedure in this bulletin. SC 4.2, 2012 face lifted, 25K miles, 1 previous owner

How did you get on doing the belts, Dan? Did it cure your squeal?

Mine has started chirping for the first few minutes before stopping.

I've found a PDF which states the same as above about a new idler pulley.

I changed both my belts, and haven't changed anything else, and the chirp has gone SC 4.2, 2012 face lifted, 25K miles, 1 previous owner

I didn't even realise there was an amber Supercharger light! Unless that's something on the 5.0 only.

15 hours to replace an auxilliary drive belt seems like utter madness though, surely that can't be the case! That's almost like the time you'd expect for changing timing chains!!

The amver light is on the rev counter, a triangle with an exclamation work. it came on a few times when fuel was low, 1/4 tank or less, then a couple of times with near to full tank. Will find out by thursady if they are actually changing the belts as they have have said. 2011 5.0SC Santorini Black

Some question about removing the viscous fan:
Do i really need the tool to block the fan so i can unscrew it? Or are there any other ways to loosen the nut?

Thanks

Hi
You only need a spanner, Halfords sell them for about £12. Give it a clout with a hammer and the fan nut will undo. Take care as you do this not to miss the spanner. Mine came undone first time. SC 4.2, 2012 face lifted, 25K miles, 1 previous owner
