Headlining cleaning, suggestions please.

Any tips for cleaning the headlining?

My car has pale grey "flock" style headlining. Got a few grubby fingermarks etc I want to clean. I don't suppose it would be a good idea to get it very wet.

I have searched on the forum but don't think this has been covered before. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I just use some APC sprayed onto a microfibre cloth and rub it over the affected area

Does depend on what the "grubby fingermarks" are...

White spirit is best for most stains, but use sparingly with gentle rubs.

Or just a detergent solution (try this first ?) .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Autoglym interior cleaner and rubbing with wet cloth has worked for me in cleaning cirrus headlining of general dirt such as finger marks, splatters of mud from wet dog jumping in to the boot etc.

Re mascara, that will need a special stain remover such as Stain Devils I would think. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Never done any of the above......

Pete, you need to take the headlining out and replace it with some aluminium sheeting. Add to the rugged look.....

.......seriously though, put some of that spray Vanish stain remover foam onto a damp cloth and then work the area. I always do the entire headlining when I buy a car. Never let me down.

I used a tin of autoglyms interior cleaner but the foam type, being a foam it is good for the heading as doesn't get it to wet otherwise it can stretch and sagg. Came up like new

You'd be amazed what a baby wipe will remove on a fabric headlining. If it really won't come off get yourself to Screwfix and buy a box of 'no nonsense' hands wipes, about a tenner. That'll do it.
Even gently removed fence paint overspray from bodywork when the recommended white spirit did nothing.
I use them all the time at work, and I also run a couple of taxis which get filthy - feet and kebab hands normally on the headlining Evil or Very Mad
Baby wipes usually sort it.

Mikey, sorry for nicking your thread, if it's just grubby I'd try some car fabric cleaner from Halfords, mine was pretty grubby in a few places and it got it all off no bother and didn't leave an edge.... Thumbs Up Pete
