S/C or TD

I took everyone's advice and spoke to Jeremy from Lookers earlier (really nice guy BTW). As we don't do too many miles a year he mentioned an S/C, more car for the money.

I'd previously only thought of getting a TDV8 so I don't know a lot about the S/C. Apart from obviously being a bit quicker and drinking a little bit more fuel is there anything else I should be aware of? This will be my first range rover (currently driving a BMW coupe) so I'm a bit naive about the details. Looking at other posts I can see people are quite passionate for and against.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Andy

Are they really that bad? I get about 21 mpg from the beemer and I know a FFRR isn't going to be in the same league as a Prius

No they are not that bad. It depends how you drive.

Hope you enjoy it.

I was tempted by an SC as they suffer higher depreciation that the TDV8 and so you get more for the money 2nd hand. But I do 20k miles a year and plod along so it made sense to get the diesel and only refuel once a week.

If I did less miles I've had gone SC. Thumbs Up

The SC is only quicker by about 1 sec than the TDV8, but a chipped TDV8 is quicker than an SC , I can't comment on a TDV8 as i have never driven one .......

Granted the SC can be greedy on petrol but so can any car if you have a heavy right foot , plus my dealer told me that come servicing time aTDV8 is dearer to service than an SC .......

Just expect to fill it up more than an Oil burner ,,,,,,,, thats how i changd my name to Mick Shelltexacobp .... Laughing ====================================

TDV8 is a no brainer!!!

12mpg compared to 20mpg and very little difference in performance if you buy a tuning box! TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

4.4 V8 Autobiography and 22" wheels **Gone**

We only do about 10k miles a year max so drinking a bit of petrol isn't the end of the world. Apart from fuel consumption is there anything else to consider? I've noticed that the s/c has nicer lights at the back but is that the only difference?

12mpg??

I get 15.7mpg constant in my SC whereas my TD6 averaged 19mpg.....SC quieter, smoother & faster.Only my opinion but would never return to Diesel again. When alls said and done with pump prices,MPG,miles travelled there is very little in it at all and with a SC you get a top spec car. Thumbs Up If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

Shocked thats a hard driven TDV8 only doing 20 Twisted Evil - it should be around the 25mpg,

bottom line is around 10 mpg difference between petrol and diesel driven for the same performance - thats my experience anyway...

Andy, if your only doing 10K a year then go for the SC

a quick calc based on 10k miles at 25mpg for the TDV8 and 15 for the S/C works out at a difference of 266 additional gallons - assuming the price of fuel is £5.46 gallon (old money) and diesel and petrol is the same price then its going to cost you an extra £1452 a year. As Petrol is a penny or two a litre cheaper is will be just slightly less than the £1452 - I cant be arsed working it out to the nearest penny. Its near enough £28 a week more...

Remember a S/C is usually cheaper than a TDV8 = more car for your money - but a Diesel holds its value better and is more desirable s/h. The choice is yours.... Thumbs Up
