its the mileage that would swing it for me, there are not many people though who only do 10k a year - a lot of us do around 20k or more - thats £60 a week difference which would go along way towards a central heating bill and other household bills...

I had the same decision to make...I went for the S/C Vogue SE with RSE, got an excellent deal and value for money on a low mileage used vehicle that will cover about 5K miles a year as a weekend family off road Bentley.

I am getting 19mpg and the engine is very smooth and responsive.

Either way, I hope you get what you are looking for. Current MY2020

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

Thanks all, it looks like the supercharged might be the way forward if Jeremy can set me up with a cheap one!

I've shown the boss pictures of the s/c grill and vents and she really likes them so that's the most important thing covered.

Jeremy's out of the office until Monday but I'll speak to him then and hopefully quite soon I'll be able to add an FFRR to my profile Thumbs Up

Given what I was bid for my mint 2007 4.2 SC Vogue SE (25,000 miles, FRRSH, etc) against a new or nearly new Rangie, they are the second hand buy of the century.

If I had to choose between a 3.6 TDV8 and a 4.2 SC I would take the TDV8.
I've driven them both back to back and the TDV8 feels less stressed with more torque especially at motorway speed.
I've driven the 5L Supercharged for a few days and I must say it is a very big improvement over the 4.2 and probably worth the extra fuel. It is not about speed or acceleration but of refinement which the TDV8 lacks.
So between a 5L SC and a 3.6 TDV8, 5L SC all the way but I haven't driven the new 4.4 TDV8 yet but my guess is that the 5L will still beat it for refinement.
Also a problem to take into account, is that the new diesel comes with a DPF (Diesel Particle Filter) as standard so if you drive short distances for a while you will have to go through the process of clearing out the DPF which involves driving at high revs for about 40/50 miles! If you don't do that and continue driving short distances the engine will have reduced power and it can cause serious damage and a costly repair.
Something to think about!

A friend has just had that exact problem on his Seat Leon TDi....30 miles at 3000 revs constant to clean it out!! Censored If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

So what is the point of buying a diesel?
The first reason is to save on fuel bills but if you have to burn your fuel by driving around at sustained revs just to clear out the DPF you might as well buy a SC, you see it all starts to make sense, why buy a diesel when the SC is more economical after all!

The lesson is, if you don't do a lot of town/ commuter driving then buy a TDv8 so the DPF doesn't clog and you have to drive crazily every so often and if you commuter drive go for the S/C so you don't have the problem in the first place. I believe that for the 2011MY cars (all diesels have to have DPF to meet the new Euro5 regs that come into force this year) LR have redesigned their system after there were so many complaints from owners of 2010MY cars who opted for the DPF last year. BTW the way to tell if a 2010MY TDvX engine (6 or 8 ) has a DPF fitted is that DPF fitted cars have straight out exhaust pipes, non DPF cars have the tips turned down. I still reckon the sensible buy is a 2007-2009 TDV8. I don't do fantastic mileages and the car often doesn't move for five days at a time, but a trip to the south of France (April) would have been much more noticeable on the pocket in a S/C.

Depreciation is a difficult thing to factor-in when you don't know how long you will have a car. I reckon my TDV8 will be worth about the same as the equivalent S/C in about fifteen years time but it will always command a premium until that point. 10mpg of a difference makes a heck of a £ difference over the life of a car. When you consider that's a 40% increase in consumption for S/C over TDV8, it doesn't stack-up well for taking just a second off the time to 60. Also, I'd be well Censored ed-off if my S/C was beaten at the lights by a TDV8 with a chip who was getting far better economy into the bargain.

Personally, I can't imagine swapping my 18month old 23k mile TDV8 for even a near new S/C. Shocked

In fact, the TDV8 is as near (Solihull) perfection as I can imagine. Cool The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile
