Flow Test for Transmission Cooler?

Is there a way to test flow in the transmission cooler? Besides transmission overheating issues if there was reduced flow would it produce any symptoms? Thanks.

I don't know about a flow test, but the new cooler is not a great deal of money.

To do a flow test you may have to remove the cooler from the car and here is likely to be 2 problems.

1. The Oil Pipe connections - almost certainly if they are original at least one of the tangs will break, so you will probably need some new pipes when you do it or see if you can get someone to replace the end connectors. You might be able to fix it back in place but you will then be driving around waiting for it to "let go" at any moment - bound to be very inconvenient time when it does.

2. The plastic plate which the cooler mounts on connecting the radiator side is likely very brittle and again other forum members have had this break while removing the cooler.

So to do the test could land you with a lot more work - probably better off simply changing it when you are ready

I plan to change mine and have assembled the following parts for the radiator side
GearBox OIL COOLER MOUNTING PLATE (Genuine LandRover) PCU000140
GearBox OIL COOLER THERMOSTAT (OEM BEHR) PBM000010
Gearbox OIL COOLER PFD000020 (OEM Hella / Behr)
Probably also need 2 new oil pipes UBP000161 & UBP000180 budget £200

As for other symptoms - I don't know Howard

Thanks. Good to know about the parts that break when you bother them.
