Fitting USB socket next to the dash.

As I wanted to keep phone charger cables tidy, and without trailing from the centre console cubby to the dash, I therefore decided to fit a USB socket as close to the dash as possible.
So this is what I decided on:

Purchased a twin USB outlet (1A & 2.1A) with a mountable housing. This was pop riveted to a piece of plat plate with the cable coming out of the bottom

Then I removed the inner cubby box and fed the wire through the bottom of the centre console

wired in a small piggy back so that no wiring was altered if I ever wanted to remove it

Slid the USB housing into place and held with some double sided 3M tape and pushed the wiring under the centre console edge.

Refitted the cubby box and then pulled away the side panel next to the heater controls and fed my phone cable behind and up through the gap in the panel to the bottom left of the instrument cluster

Now I can charge my phone without the cable dangling across the centre console Regards

Cheers Stan,

I did initially have my phone holder there but tended to cover to many buttons, so I moved it to the top vent.

A few days before I also wired in an additional AUX input to the bottom of the cubby box from the rear connection. I soldered to the wires going into the green connector and then left the wiring unplugged so then there is no need to have a jack plug in the AUX socket for it to be active. Regards

Looks a neat install. Why do you have your phone on the dash though? (Just curious)

I keep mine in my pocket or if I want it on charge I can use a car charger in the central cubby box. I just use the phone function on the touch screen to make receive calls my phone book etc all shows up. Maybe you use yours for something different?

Thanks

put there for a few reasons, notifications from work, football updates on a saturday afternoon whilst on the way home after my son has finished his game. All can be seen without touching it.
I have way to many contacts on my phone - connected to work's exchange server and therefore downloads all contacts that I have stored on my outlook account. Regards

Ahh yeah that makes sense, if you're going to end up downloading 20'000 contacts from a multinationals address book. Laughing

and it's cheaper than an apple watch.

Ja proser, because of you I just had to go do it. Been contemplating to do it since I had the dual battery installed a few weeks ago, but never got round to it.

So last night after reading this post, I went out and pulled the wires through from the 2nd battery which is in the boot, to that same spot where you put your usb. Will get the USB today and then fit it.

I have my power coning thru from the speaker hole in the dash. Surprisingly easy!

Take the cover off with a screwdriver - take the plastic cover off above the passenger foot well - drop cabled to the left side of the stereo and presto...plug into ciggy charger
