Can lpg be fitted to 5.0 SC MY2010 onwards?

Hi All

I currently run a MY54 V8 4.4 on lpg (BMW engine) and it is great!

I am thinking of buying a newer model and like the look of the MY2010 SC with 5.0 litre engine. Does anyone know if this can be converted to lpg? Has anyone on the forum done this?

I understand that there may be a new Prinz system that can be fitted to this model. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance!

5.0's are direct petrol injection, issue is that the petrol injectors use the petrol when injected to cool the injectors, otherwise they malfunction, being in the combustion camber i.e. heat.

It can be done but the injectors need to always have some petrol flow, sort f defeats the object......

Some systems exist for some direct petrol injection engines, but are expensive.

4.2's are indirect injection. Regards

I've seen one and it had the Vogels (Polish I think) system on it. Uses 20% petrol and 80% LPG, as said above the petrol flow cools the injector tips which are in the cylinders, not the manifold. A very clever system from what I could tell, it even has the ability to run 7 cylinders on LPG and one on petrol if an LPG injector were to fail. Certainly a long way advanced from the days of vapour induction.

Seemed to run OK although I didn't drive it. Was a high miler too, 120K from memory.
