In the manuals or workshop docs it states it's not an actual temperature that's achieved, just a target. Or similar words. When I had my air con serviced a couple of weeks ago the temp inside was measured at 8 degrees, which is not on the dial either. All the way cold will blow cold all the time....

I'm sure there is a better explanation somewhere..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Ac systems in vehicles including cars are designed to provide a minimum cab temperature of 16C to prevent the occupants suffering "thermal shock", which can be fatal, when exiting the cab into potentially far higher temperatures.
This came about after a number of fatalities in the US where farmers would plough fields all day in air-conditioned tractor cabs set to relatively low temperatures only to more or less drop dead when getting out of the cabs at the end of the day into temperatures exceeding 40C.
16C is now used universally as a design minimum although with a bit of fiddling you could probably make it go lower if you wished to.
Much lower of course and you will need a pullover. Very Happy

I have to ask why you'd ever want 10'C, Stan?

I shiver at anything less than 20'C. Laughing Si. <This is my name.

Just switch the climate control off and open the windows/sunroof.

I suspect the biggest reason they only bottom out at 16deg is the cabins aren't really insulated (like a fridge) so the amount of cooling power required to pull the temperature down and maintain it in summer would be impractical, plus you'd be getting frost bite with the wind chill effect.
