Weather Forecasting Rant

Just a rant...... Does anyone understand how weather forecasting can be so bloody wrong despite the millions we pour into it.

EXAMPLE - 10 oclock last night for my area - it will rain overnight (it did) clear about 08;00 (it didnt) and about 21 degrees and sunny (NO! 12 degrees if that and overcast). This has been the same pattern for the last 2 months!!! I can understand a long range forecast being vague BUT a 12 hour forecast. Even the Countryfile forecast was up the kyber!!!

Its doing my head in Big Cry I need to get out more but I dont know what to wear.. Banging Head

I blame the SNP Rolling with laughter

i agree... it would be cheaper for the met office to employ 50 or so people in different parts of the country to look out of their window and then phone in the weather there.. ... - .- -.

The only accurate weather forecast is telling people what happened yesterday.

Even with the biggest super-computers, there are too many infinitely variable inputs to what generates our weather to produce anything remotely accurate Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

When I lived in Scotland it was easy. If you could see the hills it was going to rain. If you couldn't see them it was raining. Thumbs Up John

Leaving aside my partisan view as an employee of the company that supplied the Met with about £50m of useless hardware, I totally agree. There should be some sort of audit on how accurate the forecast is vs. the actual. It is rarely, if ever, correct.

I remember a highly accurate forecast I heard on the radio just after moving the BC: generally cloudy, with possible rainy periods and some sunny breaks. Chance of snow, hail and fog. Some wind.

In other words. EVERYTHING that one could reasonably expect in December in BC was listed. Completely useless . Of course it was correct as at least one of those must occur . Censored

Well, given up now. Determined to have BBQ today so just finished it in the rain, has been warm today ( maybe 15 ) but overcast with occasional showers, and its July, worst I have known in 12 years of being back over the wall Rolling with laughter

It was baking in Kent today - temperature gauge on car showed 38 degrees at 3.30pm, sunny all day. The RR ran really well, nice and cool inside but the engine was extra noisy as I suppose it had a lot to do. Cooled seats came in handy too.

Ere living in Wales we have our own issue with weather, I've given up looking at long range reports.
On the day....If the the sun's out and clear...its not going to rain, if the sky looks grey ...It might rain...If the ground is wet.....yea you got it...I'm going to get wet ! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter If it dont work.......burn it!
