Well decision time,

I think I'll invest in the IID unit sold by Gap Diagnostics.

One final question :- If you run autoscan (if its possible), can you upload the file to your pc and print it out?.

Haylands I see you have fitted electric fans, I did the same to my classic Kenlow twin 12inch electric ones, hard wired to the battery It originally had a multi blade viscous fan that always kept running.
When the electric fans kicked in on a hot day it sounded like a jumbo jet throttling up to take off.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

You can email, or print out (with a Bluetooth printer) the codes and analyse that way
Same with the live data/logs Thumbs Up

So the IID tool can do everything that the dealer software can do or is it lacking something I will never conceive of needing?

The IID is still being developed, but already, it can do things that even the dealer tools can't do Thumbs Up

Hi Guys

Just a few precisions:

Quote:
I prefer hard wired diagnostics, wi-fi etc is fine but if there is a comms drop out ??.
The mobile App basically acts like a remote controls for the IIDTool BT. Communication with the vehicle and functions are all handled by the tool itself. For example, the following is from the user manual:

Notes on mobile App usage: Once started, the re-flashing process is independent from the App and is only handled by the IIDTool. The App is only used to display the current status and can be left in the background, foreground or closed. If the mobile device is disconnected from the IIDTool, the App will recover automatically once re-connected to the IIDTool.

In other words, a disconnection will not create any issues. Also, Bluetooth Smart connectivity is very stable and disconnections are a rare occurrence.

Quote:
And, all those ccf items can be done without the tool anyway, through the dash menu.
True for basic user personalization while more in dept settings can only be changed with a diagnostic tool (tow bar etc…).

Here's our license policy from firmware V3.0:

Standard diagnostic functions (free of charge, all supported vehicles for the IIDTool BT, one single vehicle platform for non BT units)
• Faults read / clear (All ECU’s)
• Live values
• Control outputs
• Service / test functions (service interval reset (oil service), electronic parking brake functions etc)

Enhanced diagnostic functions (VIN locked, tool comes with one license, additional license at around 60 GBP, DA6407. All supported vehicles for the IIDTool BT, one single vehicle platform for non BT units):
• ECU Flash
• Component and system calibration (including suspension height adjustments, when air suspension is fitted to the vehicle)
• Car Configuration File editing capability (for example, activate the reverse screen after retrofitting the rear camera)
• Advanced functions including backup / restore, save profiles – vehicle system settings and
configurations are read and stored as a backup file for a restore function, various changes
to systems (e.g. suspension height) can be stored and changed quickly

Unit transferring:
-Transfer of ownership (unit is sold) costs 25 GBP paid by the new owner. This includes an unlock code for his vehicle*. The enhanced functions will no longer work on the previous owner vehicle(s) once transferred.
-Transferring the unit from one vehicle to another is free of charge for the owner of the tool*. Enhanced functions will no longer work on the previous vehicle once transferred.

*Keep in mind that a non BT unit can only work on one vehicle type (L322 2006-2009 for example) while an IIDTool BT will work on any supported vehicles (L322, L405 etc...). Please consult our website for more details.

Hope this helps.

Cheers http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/

Thanks "PatGAPinnov" for the info, its very useful and re-assuring Thumbs Up .

UPDATE: I ordered the IID Diagnostic Tool DA6401 a couple of days ago, looking forwards to having a plug and play Smile .

Is there a site that explains the error code meaning and suggests a solution/s ?.
For example : Vag-com diagnostics + Ross tech Wiki website for code description and possible solutions

Thanks

Me to. The dealer said it wasn't possible to turn my auto folding mirrors off.......two minutes with the IID BT tool and sorted. I just used my phone as the bluetooth display, works a treat. 2010 5.0 SC Autobiography

I just got my BT version. So much easier to use than the non-BT version.

Managed to get my voice activation back to life after about 2 years of it not working.

I can also view my turbo actuator issue in real time, which will hopefully help with the diagnosis.

Patrick is such a helpful guy to deal with and always takes time to respond to queries. Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I've got the BT IID and can verify that the support from Pat and Gap is first rate. I've already used it to change a number of settings in my Car Configuration, reset faults, updated the bluetooth ECU and the Body ECU, and updated my Suspension ECU when I went from a failed Hitachi Compressor to an AMK one.

I've used it with my Android Phone and my iPad and it's worked faultlessly.
