Come on all, help me out with your wisdom

As you may know, I'm trying to sell the mota. This is a decision made by my wife and one Im not too keen on. She is worried about reliability issues and the cost of it when or (if even) it goes wrong.

She wants a small, new car with warrantee and that does many miles pg. Ie a hatch back for dogs.

Ok, but it does sit there doing nothing most of the time, its a dog box really and this is why she is worried, and now Im worried. I hear or turbos going and costing many many £...!

Tax, insurance and the huge service bills. Ive had many landys in the past and all have cost me money. Except my disco 3. Very very good.

I had made my mind up to sell, and now I've just taken it out for a blast I want to keep t again.

So come on, should i keep it or do the sensible thing. Am I worried about nothing? All views and experiences please.

Many thanks, Steve. You remind me of a young me, not much younger mind, perhaps even a little older!

Assuming changing SWMBO is not an option cuz that would be on the cards in my house (not really - I'm too scared) Shocked then really I think you will regret it if you let her go. There is nothing like owning a FF and the +vs far outweigh the -ves.

I think Dans suggestion is right on the money.

Do worse than to check out WarrantyWise or LR (if your miles are not too high). Plenty of threads about on which warranty is best.

Setting all that aside - what exactly is a suitable alternative to a FF? No I can't either!!

I bet you end up keeping it or use some reverse psychology - buy a newer one. 4.4's are lovely and not such a turbo issue. There we go - problem solved.!!!! Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

If you are only doing 1000 miles per year, that is a lot of money sitting on the drive doing nothing! Do you need to replace it at all if you sell? Change wife's car to hatchback?

Steve, the mileage argument doesn't seem to stack up, she wants a high MPG car for 1000 miles per year?? How much you going to save over the FF...£100 or so per year. How much you going to lose on the FF and depreciation of new eurobox,,,, get your ManMaths working Thumbs Up

You could try and try and get a component specific warranty to cover the turbo system and gearbox if you like, or as i do now just put a bit of money aside each month to cover unexpected bills. Its surprising how quickly the cash will build up, £150 per month will mount up fast, at the end of the day what ever you buy will cost you money, if you buy a newer car with a warranty, then you will b subject to the pointy end of the depreciation scale. which could cost you a £5k+pa.

And if after a year nothing has gone wrong, you will have £1800, in the bank towards your holiday!!

Agree with above re fuel, at 1k per annum you are spending £250 a year on fuel.
get a 45 mpg eurobox and you will be spending £133 per annum on fuel. A whopping £117 p.a saving!! or £2.20 per week. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If your mileage is that low, then surely the chances of a big failure are low - it's generally the higher mileage cars, or ones that have had a warning that was ignored that suffer.

Winter is the best time to sell - take 6 months to think about it - then play the 4x4 safety card Thumbs Up

It took me a long time to find my car, I near broke myself getting a loan for it and it's staying. I did not buy it for fuel economy I bought it as I'm a tall bloke and the car suits me as its big, roomy and comfortable and I only do 5 or 6k a year anyway. So my vote is keep it.

Keep it.

I think it is easy to worry too much about things that can go wrong, when compared to the old classic the L322 is a pretty reliable car. If you are not going to be thrashing it or racking up the miles then she could be very low maintenance. I've shelled out for a new gearbox at 136k but I was expecting it due to the mileage.

Rather than buy a warranty I would advise on putting a little money a side every month just in case you need it. If you don't use it, then you can treat yourself to a holiday.

You can't beat the feeling of sitting in a fullfat. No other car comes close and if you sell her, you'll only regret it in the end. Tom

Ultimately non of us know where the car sits in your mix of income and overheads, so its impossible to give a proper opinion and understand whether SWMBO is right to be worried - it might just be a slightly "irrational" fear that we all get at times.

Ultimately, life is for living and if it makes you really happy then keep it and get a warranty - the warranty will be less painful than the depreciation pill you are going to swallow Whistle

Gary seems to think that Warrantywise are good and they are much cheaper than Land Rover Thumbs Up
