Mine is 11 years old now and I have had it 2 and a half years but I knew when I bought it I will probably have to take a hit in the pocket at some time but I thought there is no point buying a RR if I couldn't afford to run it.Fortunately I know my way round a spanner and my mate can do diagnostics and this last 6 months I have used both lots.I don't do many miles but I know it will cost me more to change it than me to maintain it.I do feel for those of you out there who have to take it to the garage whenever there is a problem especially those with older models who are a bit like me and not blessed with deep pockets as those with much newer ones!!

If I was only doing 1000 miles a year it would almost certainly be sold or part/xed for a supercharged.

ANY new car will suffer from significant depreciation. That will likely be more than any repair costs. If SWIMBO would like a nice Volvo 240 GL or a nice Rover 827, then I think you'll realise some significant savings. Anything new, no matter how cheap and nasty (Kia? Hyundai?) will probably cost more.

And I'm not taking a dig at either the Rover or the Volvo. They were just two nice, old cars that came to mind that are now VERY cheap and on the large size.

It's the same with all wives pal, they want brand new, zero mileage, 500mpg, pretty, for about 3 thousand quid - erm, sorry love that doesn't exist.

If you're doing a 1000 miles a year then you're looking at about 8 years between services? Surely you can save up the cash for the service in 8 years?

So you get a new car with full warranty, then every month something major goes wrong and it then spends 2/3 weeks per month in the dealers getting fixed, yes you've not had to pay for it but look at the inconvenience caused.

I vote keep it and save money each month for unexpected issues - that's what I'm doing pal. Dan

I had it out with her and I think it may be staying. At least for another 6 months. Maybe i need to use it a bit more.

We have an audi a5 cab for swmbo to go to work and back so i told her maybe we should sell that as well, that was the turning point.

So for now I may have won the battle.

The RR is far more versatile than the A5 Cab, I'm sure she'd love to swap that for a Hyundai i20 and its 5 year warranty
