Aerosol Paint Quantity

Could anyone give me an idea of how many ml of paint I would need if I wanted to paint some mirror covers and handle covers body colour?

Also is Halfords paint and primer ok? Or would it be better to get it from one if the many online services?

Thanks in advance Very Happy

Why not order them here?

Send them an email and ask for a quote for the mirror covers too? You would arguably get a better finish then rattle cans sir Bow down

With a bit of time, and patience, you can get a good finish with Halfords rattle cans.

Much quicker and easier to get get someone else to do it though Thumbs Up

One can per cover should do it, along with a can of lacquer for each, proper colours and packs available from Duckworths Dan. With metallic paint do not rub down before applying lacquer otherwise it flats off all the sparkly bits. Get a good key for your lacquer though otherwise it won't be long before it starts to lift/bubble (speaks from experience)

IMHO nothing wrong with the rattle can approach for the small removable items on the car :fins, grille, mirror covers, but practice makes perfect.

An 02MY 4.4 V8. £20k+? I'll just start shipping them down to you Thumbs Up

And yes, put in a small amount of effort into the prep, and some careful spraying, and you would never tell it wasn't done by a bodyshop.

The whole purpose of forums is to save fellow members a bit of money...

Even if they stock your colour on the shelf in Halfords. You're better getting them to mix you a can. Reason being the cans they use for mixing come with a much better valve assembly on them. Whereas the off the shelf ones sort of spray a round cone of paint, the mix ones put out a flat fan spray, much the same way a spray gun does. It lays the paint down much better.

Their primer is ok, but you'll probably get it more cheaply on line or from a local bodyshop supplies firm.

I use Paints4u as Halfords stuff is rubbish and always tends to react whenever I have used it.
https://www.paints4u.com/

I did the whole front bumper from rattle cans supplied by them when putting on my winch kit. Looking at it you would have thought it was professionally sprayed, the colour match was spot on even though it was metallic (hardest to get right). The key to a good finish is preparation, preparation and preparation!

Agreed, i'd also add a warm dry environment too. Damp is your enemy when it comes to diy spraying. Not really an issue for a pro in a paint booth.
