With a bit of time, and patience, you can get a good finish with Halfords rattle cans.

One can per cover should do it, along with a can of lacquer for each, proper colours and packs available from Duckworths Dan. With metallic paint do not rub down before applying lacquer otherwise it flats off all the sparkly bits. Get a good key for your lacquer though otherwise it won't be long before it starts to lift/bubble (speaks from experience)

An 02MY 4.4 V8. £20k+? I'll just start shipping them down to you And yes, put in a small amount of effort into the prep, and some careful spraying, and you would never tell it wasn't done by a bodyshop. The whole purpose of forums is to save fellow members a bit of money... |

Even if they stock your colour on the shelf in Halfords. You're better getting them to mix you a can. Reason being the cans they use for mixing come with a much better valve assembly on them. Whereas the off the shelf ones sort of spray a round cone of paint, the mix ones put out a flat fan spray, much the same way a spray gun does. It lays the paint down much better.

I use Paints4u as Halfords stuff is rubbish and always tends to react whenever I have used it.

Agreed, i'd also add a warm dry environment too. Damp is your enemy when it comes to diy spraying. Not really an issue for a pro in a paint booth. |
