I need to remove a front console cigarette lighter or auxiliary socket temporarily so I can plug in a volt meter.

How can I remove any of them (preferably the one in the ash tray) to access the wiring temporarily?

Eventually I would like to replace at least one of them with a USB socket.

Ive searched google and this forum without any luck so far.

I would hazard a guess that you have to remove the centre console completely to get at it. There is a video on powerfuluk showing you how to remove the bits round the gear selector on a 2010-> so the principle should be similar.

As for the USB socket why not just get a cigar lighter to USB converter?http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B003TOO3ZW...ref=plSrch  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks. I found an easy access point to under the two cig lighter sockets at the rear of the centre console. The panel below the sockets pulls away to reveal the + & - wires. The plugs and spade for the + & - are also different to help ensure the correct wire is fitted to the correct terminal. ______________________________
