Very interesting that all the leaders have fallen on their swords, all except Jim Murphy!

If anyone should have gone first, it was him, yet he stands undaunted in his sycophantic tone of voice, saying how well the SNP did! WTF???

well it looks like we were right...... Whistle

Stayed up to watch a fair chunk of it, Its a real shame for the Lib Dems as i don't think they deserved the total drubbing they got, put probably Scottish Labour did, Its a shame to see all the leaders all resign, and some long serving MPs get booted out of seats.

What does an MP who has been in parliament for 30 odd years go and do now?

The SNP result predicted by the exit polls came true, and I think they will be somewhat bothersome to the Tories as the 3rd largest party, though how effective they will be at steering any policy decisions will be interesting to see. Its interesting how they were banking on forming an alliance with Labour to block the tories, which has obviously backfired largely due to their success in taking labour seats in scotland. Retire with their index linked gold plated overblown pension, then go and get another gravy train job with the European Union.

Or am I being too cynical?

i think the reason we are 'shocked' at the big names losing their seats, and that (possibly) good MP's have fallen out with their constituants, is that we were voting for mainly party colours, not MP's individual qualities/record etc.
they became fall guys/heroes. That exit poll, just sent out shockwaves through the country..

That was the week that was......

and a new phrase enters the political domain.

'....i'll eat my hat/kilt'

Well, I watched it with interest from afar.

First big thing: all the polls and smug pundits got it wrong. Mr. Green Mr. Green

Second: thrilled to see Nick Clegg meet his nemesis. I don't know the details of his exact promise about tuition and what the end result was, but when he promised one thing and did the EXACT opposite he got what he deserved. That's something I want every politician, everywhere, to remember. The icing on that like was the fellow LibDem (Ashdown) promising to eat his hat, then publically refusing to follow through. (Yes, I KNOW it's just an expression, but the irony is fitting.)

Third: Agree with the above, the hugely high expectations on the Scots are impossible to meet, no matter how skilled.

Anyway, good luck all. We just had the Conservatives (provincial, not federal) ousted in Alberta after FORTY years of uninterrupted rule. Now, that was a shocker - it's the most conservative part of the country and they've gone NDP (=Labour, basically). Remember, don't Censored the voters.
