2011 Keyless Vogue Deployable Side Steps Operation

Hi all, I've been reading a few threads here having given up trying to get this info from anywhere else on the web (or from a dealer, or even Land Rover even though it is a dealer fit option!) so hope you can help.

I have a 2011 factory Overfinch GT (based on a Vogue but new interior as well as exterior bits) with the electric deployable side steps, owned since last September.

I'm about to get a tyre changed (slow puncture) and want to know how to lock the steps out as I will be using my local friendly tyre guys not the main dealer which I just use for servicing.

How do you lock the steps out on a car with keyless ignition (start stop button and just need the key in the car). I've found instructions for cars with keys (turn to position one, hold.... etc) but they don't seem to carry over to a keyless car.

I've worked out how to disable and renable them (retracted) but not lock them out. I have the steps button in the roof.

HELP MUCH APPRECIATED!

Cheers,

Jules

PS Yes I know you can just leave a door open but I want to know how to do this properly and lock out electronically. I have also noted others saying a garage can use a trolley jack on different jacking points (suspension etc) but I thought with the air suspension this could cause damage and only the official points should be used.

Hi Stan, thanks for that but i'd seen that thread and it's a no go. It seems the later cars are differing in operation from the earlier ones.

If I try as per the last comment from that thread it just turns the steps off in the inward postion, and repeating turns them back on again.

Has anyone on here got a 2011/12 Vogue with the steps, keyless, with the roof switch that knows how to lock them out?

Cheers,

Jules

Don't the steps come out when you open a door? That being the case just leave a door open when you jack the car up.

Hi, yes Zirconblue they do but I know you can lock them out somehow and want to know how to do this - there is always the danger someone might shut a door (garage, tyre dealer etc) and if the car is on the jacking point then knacker the electrics or worse make it unstable.

There are lots of posts online about this and lots of answers for older cars but not the 11/12 keyless ones before the new shape came out.

If anyone knows the right sequence of buttons please comment.

Thanks.

I usually open the door let the step come out & then simply unplug the step (at the front) leaving NO chance of it moving Thumbs Up

Takes 5 seconds!

Ah thanks Cam-Tech-Craig, that sounds like a great idea, I didnt know there is a plug accessible at the front, when it stops raining I'll go and have a look underneath the car!

I prefer a 'belt and braces' plan like this.

Cheers,

Jules

(Still interested in the button method if anyone else reads this and knows though as it bugs me it is such a mystery) Smile

You're a very useful chap Craig - thanks, will do (I normally only get to use this mode when jetwashing the wheel arches as off roading on 22" wheels is a no-no Rolling Eyes )

I have those deployable steps on a 2011.5 and even with the handbook it can be a bit challenging but here goes.....

Car in Park, handbrake on.
Ensure ignition is off.
Turn on ignition (keep foot off the brake pedal-you don't want it to start)
Then within 3 seconds press and hold the button in the overhead console.

At this point the steps should pop out and the orange indicator light on the switch in the overhead console will be lit.

Steps will remain out until you exceed 5mph I think.

Truly, never quite as simple as it should be when I try and do it so persevere!
