United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Zermatt Silver
The strangeness of the LR approved sales website

Hi folks,
I'm looking to buy soon so went to the LR website http://www.usedvehicles.landrover.co.uk/search typed in some search terms (35-40k, Vogue, diesel, not black) up came 30 odd vehicles. I compered three that I fancy and up comes a comparison chart with all sorts of looney options on it.

For example three vehicles all registered as 58 or 08 had two with 'asymetric split rear seat' and one without. One with power assisted steering and two without. Surely it's not possible for a vogue of that year NOT to have split seats and power steering?

As a newbie I see/saw this site as the easy way to get the car I want, but it looks to me that the dealers put duff information up on it, in which case it can't be trusted! The above are just examples, digging around it appears to be possible to find 2yo Vogues with no satnav, driver airbag or air suspension!

Am I missing something here? I thought a Vogue was a Vogue, and the only extras were trim items.

I think the problem is that the selling dealer has to list all the odds and ends the cars have. As they all have the power steering, split rear seats etc... often they can't be bothered to list it the basics, assumption on their part that people know.

That's why I don't use the search functions beyond the basics. Age, Price, Engine and Colour.
If you are interested in one, just give the dealer a call and ask. Smile

Thanks Fox. I thought the first rule of selling is not to assume the buyer knows anything about your product! I forsee lots of bad tempered phone calls on their way Rolling Eyes

You would be surprised how many (but not all!) car dealerships have staff that know naff all about the product.
They are not enthusiasts, they are workers just there for a salary quite often and don't even drive Land Rovers.

Before I buy any car, like you I'm guessing, I do an amount of background research. More than 50% of the time I then go into a dealership and find I know more than the salesman. This is not just Land Rover either. Rolling Eyes

It's not even limited to cars, Fox! Most salespeople are not worth @$%$". The exceptions are few and far between. And the internet has just made that situation worse - the consumer is generally better informed (because it's easy) and the salespeople are getting worse and worse because the informed consumer purchases online and retailers have no more money for the sales staff.

Although I do have to say that in this case I fault LR and whoever built the site more than the dealers. I'm sure they just use a general matrix with all auto options listed. It's not as if LR has so many models that someone couldn't have gone through and deleted the items that are standard for each model... Rolling Eyes

No Censored !! My 07MY TDV8 HSE was listed as a 06/56 TDV6 RR Sport HSE. Not much difference there then, except of course, the price. Once they realised their mistake it was a bit late. Deposit paid and I got her for about 3k less than book. Some days are good days and that was one of them Very Happy
