i found my door lock would not close after opening it yesterday so a squirt of wd40 into the door lock mechanism solved it this morning.. ... - .- -.

long ratched strap - if all else fails can be used for self recovery or to tow you out.

Folding shovel

Bottle water - either to drink or for washer

small army stove or similar

Keep a warm blanket in the car. Handy if you have a problem.

Did that last year and it worked all winter! Original problem was the door stuck open or closed due to frost. WD40 immediate cure best applied with the straw direct into key slot and then onto the mechanism.

Next thing you need is a set of Vredestein Wintrac 4Xtreme tyres for massive grip in the snow and they look great too....(www.camskill.co.uk)

Einszett Gummi Pflege: rubber seal protectant and feed works well on the felt too, comes in a shoe polish style applicator and only costs about �6.

If there is a heavy frost, then run a credit card along the top edge of the door before you open it, as sometimes the rubber seal will weld itself to the roof of the Range. If you don't do this, then the seal can stick to the roof and pull itself away from the door as you open it, which will permanently damage the seal.

WD40 - worst thing you can put in a car lock.

It cleans all the graphite powder and grease out - hence why you use WD40 as a de-greaser. Short term gain, but long term pain.

Lots of stuff on the interwebs about it.

Just spray round all the rubbers weekly after washing. Makes the door shuts shiny too if you wipe over with a rag.

I used to use vasaline on door seals, then read somewhere that wasn't a good idea....

Thanks for the tip re WD40 Dan I guess its just a quick fix if you really cannot shut the door a position I was faced with!

Graphite or Teflon powder for lube.

In general you shouldnt get water in the keyhole, if you do, you're doing it wrong!
