Battery recharging

Do you think this is true?

According to AA patrol of the year Paul Leather: "It takes a lot longer to fully charge a modern car battery than many people realise – typically 240 miles of driving with no load or eight hours of continuous driving – which can unfortunately lead to problems.

So if you just manage to start the car and you don't possess a battery charger you have to drive 240 miles to give the battery a full charge.

Discuss. Travelling around in circles again.

I asked the same question from my indie LR garage. They recommended at least 40 min of driving.

8 hours has to be the biggest load of rubbish I've heard. Do the maths.

110 amp hour battery.
150 amp alternator.

Even from completely flat I make that 110/150ths of an hour, i.e. 44 minutes. And making allowances for inefficient absorption of the charge wouldn't multiply the time taken by a factor of 10.

The AA are now selling batteries. Sounds like a sales pitch to me. Travelling around in circles again.
