Sandy's listed process was what I had done on 18" and 20" alloys.

£280 all incl for the 4 x 20" wheels. A couple of years ago but it won't have increased hugely.

Shocked Shocked Sandyt, Mate your being legged over, 99% of all alloy wheel refurbishment in the Home Counties, is done by BJV Engineering in Flaunend nr Hemel Hempstead.

http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/

They referb wheels for Chiltern Aston Martin, amoungest all the other top end garages in the area. Done a wonderful job on my mates Bentley wheels, including repairing a crack in the rim, after he had a high speed whoopsie with a granite kerb stone that a lorry had left in the middle of the road on a bend Shocked The chap that started the company used to repair off shore power boat props, top welder Thumbs Up

The process list that you have put up in the post is a direct cut and paste from his web site Wink If you can take the wheels off the car then you'll save yourself a heap of dosh, even more if the tyres are off too Smile And according to my pal they run a collection / delivery service for the garages and regularly go to places like Sunningdale and Egham Whistle Might be able to strike a deal Whistle Worst case you'll have to drop them off yourself, but its only 40 minutes max up the road for you, providing the car parks moving Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Update, just been mooching around on BJV's web site, they will collect and deliver back for £20 minimum of 4 wheels Thumbs Up And seeing as your a stones throw from the 25, I recon that your in with a very good chance of being in their collection area Very Happy
£53.50 for a standard wheel with tyre on and £45 if it's the rim only Thumbs Up
Then you could go for silly sparkly colours like Lambo Orange £58.5 Shocked Why?
Or for extra bling, have them Diamond cut @ £63.50
As you can see way cheaper than what you've been quoted, for the same job by the same people Evil or Very Mad We weren't born yesterday, way further back than that Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Thanks guys - Can I just say that I'm now even more undecided than ever. Big Cry

Price doesn't come into it - both circa £50+vat per wheel complete (not just the face). I'm now worried about the obliteration of detail tha powder coating may bring but then I'm worried about the ease paint could get damaged.

I don't do a collosal mileage anymore (approx' 15k) but I don't do many short journeys either (absolute minimum 13 miles). Mine is a farm vehicle and I do take the livestock trailer to various places to load stock which involves a fair amount of stone and mud.

Hmmm - I may have to call in and see some samples of the powder coating effect on wheels.

Thanks again Thumbs Up

I went into some detail before having 4 x Q7 wheels tyres off fully refurb'd (loads of research on forums including Detailing World UK in particular).

Started off with powder coating being the recc way forward and then found the company that eventually did ours. Having visited the premises and seen their work plus genuine testimonials, the owner told me that in basic terms, the process they do would be as, if not more, durable than factory finish (acid strip, blast, powder coat x 2, OE paint finish of choice, 2 coats of lacquer).

The fact that the painted finish was applied over powder coating meant that they were well protected, could be nicely repaired if needed and without a full refurb again.

After being fully refurb'd, about 12 months later one wheel did get kerb damage and they took it in for a wheel face repair, repaint and relacquer for £30 to £40 all incl. Perfect finish again and like the fully refurb'd wheels, did not deteriorate.

The wheel refurber polished and sealed the wheels before returning them and advised me to clean them with warm soapy water once a week to maximise the chances of the wheels staying pristine and contaminant free, as well as periodic polishing and sealing of the wheel surfaces.

No problems for that, I hate to see people being ripped off, BJV are one of a few companies who specialise in wheel refurbishing, and are the only one's that I know of in the Home counties. If you pay a garage in hertfordshire to refurb your wheels, they will either go to BJV or a mob up my way (Woburn Sands). Know the quality of their work, Living on top of the Woburn Sands, I'd send mine to Flaunden Thumbs Up
When they did my pals Bentley you'd have though they were new originals, and when he had the ding up the Leighton Buzzard road, I rescued him and the wheel looked a rightoff, 1" split in the rim and had gone flat for about 4", after it was repaired and refinished you'd have thought it was another new wheel. And at £1500 per rim Shocked ,my pal was glad that they could save it Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Hi,

I have brought a set of brand new 21" nine spoke black pack Stormer alloys in black and i want to get them partially polished to offset the black.

Any ideas who might be the best person to use, i haven't had tyres put on them yet as they are still in the box. Am in the south. Any recommendations would be great please.

Thanks

If your looking to make the rim and face of the wheels silver, then you want to have them Diamond cut. This will remove the black and expose the silver alloy underneath, they then clear coat the wheel to stop it corroding. But as this is done on a large lathe, they can only do the face and not for example in between the spokes. If you really want the rim polished, to a mirror finish, they will need to see a metal polisher, and depending on how old and the condition of the black, they still might need to be re-coated.
I would talk to BJV if you are anywhere near the M25, as they are about 6 miles from J20, and are in easy reach of most of us in the home counties Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
