Water in the boot, help I'm drowning!

Hi all, just tried a search for water ingress in the boot, and I've lost the will to read, there isn't any definitive answers, all I can find is it happens and it kills the radio and sat nav. So far I've been lucky, but water is getting in and I'm looking for causes and fixes, before every thing goes pop in the boot!
After the downpour we've just had I'm now wondering if I left the radio switched on and if this is the last time it will work, I'm feeling a wee bit nervous about turning the key.
I have been considering taping up the sun roof, just to get me through the winter, but I can't see Land Rover running the drains in the rear pillars when there are closer routes to the outside world, B or C pillars.
Can someone how has found the cause and cured the problem, as to the wheel well becoming a real well, please put me out of my misery, before I start to Big Cry , and make things a lot worse Very Happy Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

From what I have read about this on here and other forums, it can be from the boot seal ( more than likely )too how the FF has been welded in the back where the sat nav compartment is, too if you have a tow bar fitted !

I think there where some pictures on here about that compartment getting rusty, Joe90 im sure took some. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

You need a new upper tailgate seal. Thumbs Up
If you look at it with the tailgate open you will find that one or both of the top corners have come away from the metal flange it is supposed to sit on.
Rainwater then runs down between the body panels and usually exists just in time to dump on the DSP and the satnav.
It then carries on into the wheel well. You can drain the wheel well by removing a rubber grommet.
A water shredder helps "a bit" but doesn't solve the water ingress problem.
Imo the tailgate door seal is badly designed and not fit for purpose.
A new seal solved the problems you describe for me.

Will be the rear seal. Ours was wet in the boot and looked like it was coming in from the rear bumper area. Dried it all out, fitted a new seal and had a dry boot, radio area ever since.
Got mine from Dan.

It's prob seal as others have posted. If not, it's prob inside the spare wheel well behind where the bumper fits on, ie near your knees if you are stood at the back reaching in, if you see what I mean.

That's the 2 places that are discussed in the various threads.

I have the Land Rover official plastic bag fitted around the infotainment units, just in case......

Miggit,

Top left corner of the seal... If you feel both sides of the seal (the part that fits the bodywork, not the water seal itself) you should find the "clamping springs" aspect of the seal has failed. They get wet and rust, then expand forcing the seal clamping springs apart, opening up the "c" sectional part of the seal... This then almost certainly opens the white sealant inner bead up to the elements drying it out. This then compounds the issue!

Hope that helps explain in more detail Thumbs Up
