United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

I noticed yesterday that my SC was misting up very quickly when I got out of it, I've had a look today and have found water in the boot of the SC today too. Thankfully it's only around the wheel and all the electrics look to be nice and dry still.

Is it worth replacing the upper tailgate seal as well as the main one when doing these? I've popped the small bung behind the compressor for now to stop any water pooling in the wheel recess, are the bungs available separately?

Fingers crossed this sorts it as I really can't be bothered removing the tow bar to seal where the armature meets the body. Laughing

I've got it tucked up in the garage just now to stop it getting wet until I can get the parts replaced.

I have the same problem. The electric sections left and right are not wet at all or have they ever been, it's all dry in those sections. On occasion, the recess where the wheel sits has some water in it, but I have removed a grommet near the tailgate to let any drain out.

I had the main rear tailgate seal replaced on 23rd, cost me £120 all in including fitting. If this doesn't cure the leak, not sure what other seals I need to replace or check. It's odd to think on such an expensive car, why this sort of fault exists, it seems like a very bad design flaw to me.

Let us know how you get on.

I'm waiting for Dan to reopen so that he can get my seal up to me. Just annoying having to keep it tucked up so the boot doesn't fill up with water!

We had lots of rain last night, still a teaspoon of water sat in my boot but not as bad as it was. So it looks as if the raer tailgate seal possibly helped a little but it's getting in somewhere else. I wonder if it's around the top hinges?

I did the same, seal is now replaced and there's still a bit of water getting in.

I'm convinced for some reason now that it's my tow bar that it's getting in from now as I fitted one in the summer. Next step for me is to remove the tow bar, run some instant gasket around the plates and then fit it back to the car in hope that it'll solve this.

Fingers crossed! I despise sorting water leaks.

I fixed my boot leak last year - replaced the seal as others have done but still water running in. Long story short it was coming in where the bolts that hold on the rear crash bar that is behind the rear bumper come through the rear panel - there are 4 on each side and they are quite big - they were drawing water in both sides - may have been a gasket on there once upon a time but I fixed it by removing the rear bumper, unbolting and removing the crash bar and filling the holes with sealant, then applying a sealant gasket to the mounting surface of the crash bar - then refit- its messy and you get a lot of sealant come through with the bolts but it cured the problem and stopped the car misting up on wet days.

I hope that helps - happy to talk anyone through it and it's not that difficult to do.

Darren

That's sort of confirmed my suspicions that it could be the tow bar mounting bolts Thumbs Up

Will give that a bash and see.

Makes sense as since changing the boot seal the car stays dry and only seems to get wet when being driven now so it's probably going to be the spray that's hitting those bolts.

Well ... touch wood, mines been dry for a few weeks since I had my rear tailgate seal changed, we've had a fair bit of rain also. At the same time as having the tailgate seal replaced, they adjusted the boot alignment slightly as the one corner was out by 2-3 mm. Maybe this had something to do with it also.

The mechanic also mentioned, water has been known to sit on the top hinges and then soak through gradually.

Either way you look at it, very poor for a car with such a high price tag when new. Even the newer RRS suffer this problem and worse.

Good luck with it all!

Well it looks like I might have been a bit premature thinking that the tailgate seal hadn't resolved it.

We have had a lot of heavy rain over the last few days where the car hasn't been used, there was a lot of snow last night which has melted over the roof as the car was used this morning to go to the dentist and back when there was a monumental amount of spray on the roads as well due to the melting snow...

Happily, another look under the boot floor has revealed that it was bone dry! Thumbs Up

Good News and well done! I've been checking mine after heavy rain and so far so good, it definitely leaked prior to having the new seal fitted and now it doesn't Smile
