"rear water ingress"

Fuollowing on from a previous question and being redirected to "wiki" it appears I have this issue. My navigation is not working and when investigating the area that it's housed in the rear left hand it is damp. Looking through wiki I have it would appear "rear water ingress". If this is a common issue where is it coming from please and how can I sort it?

Thanks again for your help guys, great forum Thumbs Up

bad luck matt, it is fairly common and you need a water shedder and probably a new unit.

Thanks again scarey. So where exactly is the moisture coming from? And does the water shedder protect the entire area? I had thought maybe the dealer had been less than careful when washing or shampooing but I guess not. Is it from underneath or around the light housing or something?

Hi,
We have a 2010 Vogue se and when we had a tow bar fitted last week the technician pointed out that the spare wheel housing and the compartment with the elctrical bits in had water in it. It's going back to dealer under warrantee for them to sort, I will let you know where they find the water ingress is coming from.

Appreciated Nathan. I am happy to beef up the protection around the equipment but that isn't solving "the problem" if you know what I mean. The issue is it's coming in in the first place and I am the kind of guy who has to fix that lol. Let me know your findings mate

Ok so update. Navigation unit is ruined as expected. The garage think they have found a couple of issues where the water came from. Upon research it often happens to vehicles with sun roofs and we had a slightly perished boot seal which is being replaced. Something for others to check with the same issue Thumbs Up Range Rover 4.4 V8 Autobiography

When I had my TD6 and noticed the rear washer was not operating correctly, it was sending washer water down the inside of the rear glass, this then collected in the trim, and no doubt made its way down into the inside of the car, luckily I caught this very early and no damage was done, but this is another way water can get into the car. Discovery 4 HSE

I would also consider whether part of the problem could be condensation.
I noticed condensation in the rear compartment of mine which disappeared when I left the side panel off for a few days.
What I couldn't find was any collection of water anywhere, the compartment is bone dry.
As a precaution against corrosion in the future I've sprayed all the plug connectors with WD40.
I still have reservations about "water shedders". The water can still get in and be shedded(?) but it still can't get out of the car.
I wondered if placing a container of desiccant in the compartment would help.

I'm getting a bit jumpy over these rear water ingress problems as there doesn't seem to be a single cause.

I've started sticking my hand down the side of the spare and as far down as I can reach beside the TV tuner every time I use the vehicle to check for dampness. I think I am going to buy a battery powered Velleman water alarm next weekend!
