The starting and then not running for more than a second or two says fuel starvation to me. If the glow plugs was an issue, the engine wouldn't fire or fire with lots of smoke. Although it could be that the motor management sees too many values out of wack (in case of a few bad glow plugs) and then stop running but I'm sure that would throw up fault codes.

It's very seldom that glow plugs are required in our climate to start the engine, they do help when the temperature drops to just below zero but the engine should still start easily without them. I have only once waited on my glow plugs heating before starting the engine on my TD6 and that was when the temperature dropped to -17 °C |

i has just had a service where they (Matfords LR) added a diesel cleaner to the fuel, maybe that doesnt like the cold.

When the weather is colder the light will take longer to extinguish as it takes longer to reach its predetermined temperature.

i have not had an issue with diesel cleaner before just looking at options.

food for thought, ok, thank you. not had the vehicle long though so dont know if it was a prior issue. its also not done it for the last week on any type of start! Cheers

yes i did it was the battery. even after fitting a new battery it struggled after a while.
