It never rains but......

Starter motor on FF finally gave up on Thursday, I'd already ordered a second hand one, it turned up and had a damaged bearing on the end behind the drive pinion, the race shield had come out and the bearing was useless, it will also let water in like this...

Decided Oh well I'll get a recon one and fit that...

Did it OK, it's awkward to do, Rave says you have to remove the exhaust manifold but managed to do it without, works great and drove home...

SWMBO came home and parked up her TT, then the problems started... it must have gone something like this...

TT to FF "What have you done today"

FF to TT "Ooooh, I had a nice shiny new starter motor, I feel like a new car now...."

TT to FF "Thats not fair, I want one...."

SWMBO goes to the gym and at 8.30pm I get a phone call.... It won't start... no crank...

FF to the rescue with tow rope in hand... towed it and dumped it outside my mates garage...

Friday morning I take her to work and pop into garage... after a quick diagnoses it's the starter motor on the TT!!!!

Spent most of the day changing it, thought the FF was bad but the TT was just daft... stick 3.2ltrs of V6 and a 6 speed DSG gearbox under the bonnet of that little thing and there is not much room for a starter... tons of bits to remove before you can even see it....

Finished at 3.20pm and then popped to pick SWMBO from work at 3.30....

Wait, there's more.....

Drove her back to the garage and sent her on her way home in her now placated TT who was as happy as Larry with it's new starter....

FF..... "Bl@@dy TT, it's not going to outdo me... I'll show them"

I jumped in the FF and drove home, less than 1/2 mile from the garage and....... alternator fails!!!>>!! Censored Censored

Was about 10miles home, so turned off everything I didn't need and got home on battery power....

Saturday morning and another bright and shiney part gets fitted to the FF....

Lets hope the TT doesn't get upset.....!!!!!

So three days of work and £550 lighter.....

Bl@@dy cars, I hate 'em

It's clever the iBus you know......

I recon they will become fully self aware in Q1 2015 and the TT will want to go off roading. They could run away together. That's how the Q5 was made.....

Seriously though, a bit of a pain but you shouldn't have to worry about those parts now, and that new alternator does look well.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

This is all a bit anthropomorphic. Seriously, cars don't talk to each other.

....do they?

Are you serious??? Shocked Shocked

Of course they do! And they do more than that too. You know those electric elements which masquerade as seat heaters? Yeah well I'll tell you they are actually field effect scanners designed to scan the cards in your wallet, check your bank balance and then report back to the main ECU so it can induce a fault which costs roughly the same to fix as the amount of spare cash you have that month ! Thumbs Up
